The gang returns from 1947 and discover that not only are things not as they remember them, but Dr. Grant came along with them.

Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: Dr Grant talks about his disappointment at the lack of robot servants, referencing James Callis' role in Battlestar Galactica (2003). The doors of the ELF lab also resemble a Cylon face.
  • Alternate Timeline: As as result of Accidental Time Travel Jack, Jo, Henry, Allison and Fargo now live in a changed timeline:
    • Fargo is the head of Global Dynamics while Allison is chief medical officer.
    • Andy is still Carter's deputy with Jo head of G.D. Security.
    • Kevin never became autistic.
    • Jo and Zane never dated and (from Zane's point of view) are still enemies.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Deputy Andy realises Jack & co have time traveled from analysing the pollutants in Carter's hair and the questions Carter's asking him about recent history.
  • Crazy-Prepared: It turns out that, yes, the military and Global Dynamics have protocols in place just in case someone goes back in time and alters history.
Grant: You're kidding, they have military protocols in place for that?
Carter: Oh, trust me, they have military protocols for everything.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: When Jo finds the deputy uniforms are about three sizes too large for her, she worries that in this timeline, she's fat. Turns out those are Andy's as Jo is the head of security for Global Dynamics.
  • Flipping Helpless: Carter and Deputy Andy find Tiny, Tess' Titan rover that looks like a robotic ant, upside down in the woods after running over a cliff.
  • Frickin' Laser Beams: Among Tiny's armaments is a laser capable of leaving large holes clear through a tree.
  • Harmless Electrocution: Many characters, but especially Carter, get zapped several times with no serious ill effects. Carter and Dr Grant get zapped several times in the ELF lab while defusing the weapon.
Carter: I thought these suits were supposed to protect us?
Grant: From the charge, not from pain!
  • Oh, Crap!: Carter and Allison, when they see Dr Grant has come to 2010 with them.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • As if Tess still being around isn't enough, Carter's realization of how different things are is when Kevin drops by talking like a normal teenager.
    • When Tess appears jarred at Fargo seeming so friendly, Fargo finally realizes that in this timeline, he's a pretty horrible person.
  • Pink Elephants: Played With. After the accident in her lab, Tess keeps talking about a "big red elf," making Carter think she's delusional. However, when he mentions it to Henry and Dr Grant, they realise she was talking about a kind of high-energy lightning.
  • Running Gag: The Jeep is shot by Tiny's laser.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Fargo's password is "Dougie the Vampire Slayer." Which Other Fargo chose and Prime Fargo was able to guess in one.
    • When Carter and Dr Grant are trying to connect cables to disable the ELF device, the cable is too short and they have to stretch to make it work, like Doc Brown did in Back to the Future. Henry also shouts that they're "Outta time!" echoing Doc's license plate.
  • Time Travel Taboo: Time Travel is forbidden and anyone involved is in danger of getting sanctioned.
    Fargo: Um, sanctioned, like, dead?
Jo: No, sanctioned like we each get a puppy.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: After three seasons as the Butt-Monkey of the town, Fargo figures now he's the head of Global Dynamics, he'll finally be treated with respect and admiration. Then he discovers that in his timeline, he's an egomaniacal near-tyrant of a boss who everyone hates. Oh, and Julia, his girlfriend from the prime timeline, never moved to Eureka and instead runs a company in California where she lives with her astronaut husband.
