Go To

While Avalor is preparing for the Sunflower Festival, Naomi becomes suspicious of Rita — really Carla in disguise — and tries to convince Elena that she can't be trusted.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • An Aesop:
    • It doesn't matter if you're not good at something, what matters is that you and your friends and family have fun doing it.
    • Be careful when trusting strangers.
    • Put your past behind and look to the future.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Shuriki's plan to steal the crown jewels and awaken Fiero works perfectly, and as a bonus, they steal a really important page of the Codex Maru. Our heroes don't realize what's going on until its too late, and Shuriki and co. manage to escape.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Sunflower Festival goes smoothly, but Elena and co. learn that Shuriki has returned and she's duped them all.
  • Blatant Lies: When Carla's hair begins to revert back to its real color, she claims it's because the sun makes her hair dark, when technically it's the opposite.
  • Call-Back: When Naomi finds Rita acting suspicious, Elena once again dismisses it as Naomi being jealous over Rita doing something harmless. This time, Naomi continues to act on her suspicions since what Rita is doing seems to be violating the palace's security.
  • Continuity Nod: Fiero mentions that Shuriki banished him from Avalor. As mentioned in "Elena and The Secret of Avalor", Shuriki banished all magic from the realm except her own.
  • Mood Dissonance: While Cristina dances with the others to "This New Day", a song about moving on from the past and enjoying the present, Shuriki and company steal the crown jewels.
  • Oh, Crap!: Elena's reaction to seeing Shuriki appear right before her alive and well, with a slow Jaw Drop to top it off.
  • Please Keep Your Hat On: When Carla-as-Rita notices part of her hair is turning black as the spell starts to wear off, Shuriki has her wear a beret to avoid blowing her cover.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: When Carla's disguise starts to wear off, her false red hair gradually reverts to its original black.
  • Rule of Three: This marks the third attempt for the villains to take the jewel from the tiara; this time they are successful.
  • Trauma Button: Upon seeing that Shuriki has returned and is causing chaos in the palace, Elena freezes and flashbacks to the day Shuriki attacked the palace.
  • Wheelchair Woobie: Cristina feels discouraged from participating in the dance because her being crippled and in a wheelchair make it hard to do so. Armando decides to change the dance in order to make it more easy for Christina to perform.
  • Wham Episode: Elena and her team see the restored Shuriki along with Fiero and the Delgados, and Elena is determined to stop her once and for all.
