Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 5 E 21 A Town Called Ed

Go To

The Eds find an old book titled "Fort Peach Creek" that details the history of their hometown of Peach Creek—after reading the book, the trio discovers that Eddy's ancestors were the original founders of the town (over three centuries previously). Eddy decides to use this as a way to make the rest of the kids in the cul-de-sac respect him more. However, the last page of the book is missing, which means that there could be more to the story than the Eds realize...

Tropes

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: After finding out that his ancestors founded Peach Creek, Eddy’s ego, which was already overinflated, gets even bigger.
  • An Aesop:
    • Don’t let family history go to your head.
    • Do your research properly and thoroughly.
  • Chekhov's Gun: When the book is found at the beginning, Edd notices that the last page is torn off. It's revealed at the end that the Kankers have the missing page, which says that their family are the real owners of Peach Creek.
  • Do Not Adjust Your Set: The Eds hook up to Kevin's TV antenna and broadcast a reenactment of Eddy's ancestors founding Peach Creek. No one is amused because it interrupts the monster truck show. Kevin finds out and rehooks the Ed's signal to the Kankers' trailer.
  • Downer Ending: The Eds' scam fail as usual, and they are once again harassed by the Kankers (along with the fact that the Kankers' ancestor technically owned Peach Creek)—however it's somewhat deserved on Eddy’s end for letting his supposed “status” go to his head and trying to lord over the kids.
  • Entitled Bastard: Eddy tries to use his newfound status as a direct descendant of Peach Creek's original founders to try and make the other kids respect him, even going so far as to try and demand 300 years’ worth of "back rent" from the cul-de-sac kids.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: As the kids leave school, Nazz is shooting an annoyed look while the other kids laugh after the Eds are excluded again.
  • Hypocrite: Eddy says that Kevin is fat-headed, self-absorbed, and that he and the rest of the cul-de-sac kids “think they’re too good for everyone else” when Eddy himself is very self-centered and egotistical, and spends the episode trying to lord over them and demanding they kiss his butt.
  • Impact Silhouette:
    • Ed gets embedded in the front entrance after Eddy slams the door on him.
    • As Kevin goes outside to see the improvised antenna the Eds used to hijack his TV signal, he sees an Ed-shaped hole on his fence.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Eddy’s female ancestors have the exact same body and facial features as him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Eddy rudely interrupts the other kids’ TV show, insults them, and spends the episode arrogantly demanding respect and 300 years’ worth of “back rent”, only to end up getting laughed at by the kids and kissed against his will by Lee Kanker.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Eds' reaction to learning that Eddy's ancestors lost Peach Creek in a gambling match to Lord Kanker.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: The book's illustrations of Eddy's ancestors are literally just him in pilgrim/puritan-style outfits. Ed lampshades this, calling Eddy’s ancestors “a gaggle of Eddys in funny hats”.
  • Tempting Fate: Edd says that the book Fort Peach Creek has enough information for their history project only to find that the last page is ripped out...and that page contains an important detail.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Eddy’s female ancestors look like Eddy with feminine hairstyles and long eyelashes.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Let’s just say that Eddy’s ancestors shouldn’t have wagered their town, especially to someone whose descendants will basically grow up to be serial rapists.
  • Unfazed Everyman: None of the neighborhood kids seem to care that the Kankers own their city. Subverted with the Eds, who are horrified by the revelation.
  • Wham Episode: The Kankers are revealed to own Peach Creek.
  • Wham Line: The missing page of Fort Peach Creek contains the most important detail, and the Eds are not happy.
Edd: (reads from the final page) "And the entirety of the founder's land was signed over thustly to one who bested him in a gambling match: (horrified) Lord Kanker?!
Eddy: WHAT?! Lord Kanker?! THE KANKERS OWN PEACH CREEK?!
  • Where the Hell Is Springfield?: Finally averted, as this episode confirms (more or less) that Peach Creek is located in the United States, probably somewhere in the New England-region of the American Northeast—and to go off of that, Peach Creek could be located in Massachusetts, since that's where the pilgrims (and later, the puritans) ultimately settled.
