Recap / Ed, Edd n Eddy S4E19 "Run for Your Ed"

Go To

The Kanker Sisters try to retrieve their missing ship in-a-bottle, even if it means embarking on a rampage; destroying the neighborhood in the process. Meanwhile, Ed's recent sleep-eating rampage leaves him with a ship-in-a-bottle stuck to his finger... which happens to be the one the Kankers are looking for!

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Always a Bigger Fish: Sarah may be The Dreaded to the Eds, but even she's powerless when the Kankers are on the warpath.
  • Big Ball of Violence: The Kankers fight each other once they get their ship in a bottle back.
  • Bound and Gagged: Sarah is left gagged and sacked in a corner as the Kankers ravage through her room.
  • Brick Joke: Rolf is the first person who goes into hiding to avoid the upcoming catastrophe. The final scene cuts to him still in hiding with his animals.
  • Call-Back: Once again, Ed's sleepwalking contributes to the plot.
  • Desolation Shot: We get a panorama shot of the cul-de-sac in total ruins while the children react in terror and run for safety.
  • Dirty Coward: Eddy's not above suggesting that he and Edd hand Ed over to the Kankers to save themselves. Of course, Ed DID ransack the Kankers' trailer in his sleep, and make off with their ship-in-a-bottle in the first place; and returning it to them does indeed bring a stop to their rampage.
  • The Dreaded: If you thought the Kankers struck enough fear in the cul-de-sac kids' hearts, then their "Kanker Hissy Fit" is much, much worse, as they cause an indescribable level of destruction around the neighborhood and end up torturing almost all the kidsnote .
  • The Easy Way or the Hard Way: Parodied. When the Kankers invade Jimmy's house, Lee tells him he could make it easy on himself and "cough it up". Marie barges in and opts to do it the hard way, much to Jimmy's panic.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: Rolf notices his animals panicking, and quickly deduces that something is coming to wreck the cul-de-sac.
  • Faux Horrific: Ed's reaction to...
Ed: Bad soap; evil soap, slippery, sudsy, scary soap!!
  • Heartbeat Soundtrack: When Edd realizes the ship-in-a-bottle belongs to the Kankers, this plays over everything else, as he calmly closes the door on them, locks it, and finally looks at his friends as the heart beats faster before...
Edd: OH LORD! THAT SHIP IN A BOTTLE BELONGS TO THE KANKERS!!!!!
Eddy: KANKERS!? EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF!!!!!
    Ed: Who!? What!? Where!? Why!?
  • Here We Go Again!: Eddy gets his finger stuck in the faucet at the end, much like how Ed's finger was stuck in the bottle for this whole episode. On top of that, Ed gets the bright idea to go get the Kankers for help, despite how the interactions with them tend to go.
  • Idiot Houdini: Ed was the one who took the Kankers' bottle ship, which started the hissy fit that destroyed the cul-de-sac, and in the end, he doesn't get any consequences.
  • Missed Him by That Much: Throughout the episode, the Eds miraculously avoid the Kankers' warpath to find their missing bottle as they're too busy trying to get Ed's finger unstuck from said bottle.
  • Non Sequitur, *Thud*: Well, minus the "thud" part - when Ed wakes up from sleepwalking, what little brain he has takes a couple seconds to catch up...
Ed: Private Do-Not-Enter is ready for duty, chief!
  • Oh, Crap!: Multiple times this episode:
    • The Kankers when they realize that someone broke into their house and again when they find that their prized ship-in-a-bottle has gone missing.
    • Rolf and his animals when they sense the danger that is about to hit the cul-de-sac.
    • The kids get this as soon as the Kanker Hissy Fit is unleashed.
    • Sarah when she finds out that the noisemakers she just heard are not the Eds.
    • Edd gets a huge one when he sees the Kankers at the front door of his house and realizes the ship-in-a-bottle belongs to them. Ed and Eddy quickly follow on them when Edd tells them.
    • Once the Kankers find them, the Eds get another one.
    • And finally, Eddy, when Ed goes to the Kankers to get him unstuck from the faucet.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: The Kanker Sisters wreck the cul-de-sac in their hunt for their lost property.
  • Pet the Dog: For once, the Kankers don't harass the Eds much beyond beating the door down to get at their stolen ship-in-a-bottle.
  • Plot Hole: How did Sarah managed to ungag herself when her arms were tied up?
  • Slasher Smile: Sarah gives one as she tells the Kankers who's got their ship-in-a-bottle.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: From the perspective of the Eds, Double D lampshades how they managed to survive the episode unharmed. Though it's subverted for Eddy since his finger ends up getting stuck, and Ed goes to get the Kankers for help.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: The Eds and Rolf are the only ones untouched and unscathed from the Kanker Hissy Fit, though Eddy finds himself in pickle when he gets his finger stuck in the sink's faucet.
  • Toon Physics: After she hears the Eds hiding under the sink, Lee turns the faucet on which makes the three boys pour out like water.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Edd's initial suggestion for getting the bottle off is derailed by Ed's crippling fear of soap.
