"Ed, you are disgracing yourself."
When Ed rips open Edd's screen door, he lets a bug in the house and when the Eds attempt to swat it, it gets lodged in Eddy's throat, rendering him unable to talk. Ed and Edd, with help from Rolf, try to help Eddy by giving him a communication bell, but end up doing more harm than good.Tropes:
- Animation Bump: While the art style is the same, the animation is noticeably higher in frames.
- Butt-Monkey: Poor Eddy.
- Comically Missing the Point: A running gag throughout the episode is Ed, Double D and especially Rolf misinterpreting Eddy's desires with the ringing of a bell. Also after Eddy laughs that the creature he is bullfighting is only a rooster, Rolf thinks he is crying.
- Doomy Dooms of Doom: "The Unicycle of Doom is a very brave request for a coward!"
- Early-Installment Weirdness:
- Edd is just as idiotic as Ed and Rolf in this episode, almost completely lacking the common sense to give Eddy a pencil to write with or to not plug a fridge into his house for that matter. In later episodes, while still quite gullible, Edd would be a lot better at reading and solving problems.
- While Rolf was always very friendly towards the Eds even in later seasons, the way he sweetly invites them to his house for lunch and hangs around them the entire episode as if he truly is an Ed is jarring when compared to later episodes where he's more known for hanging around Kevin and actively avoids the Eds like everyone else.
- Eddy seems pretty happy to go to Rolf's house for lunch, as he's smiling when Rolf invites him and the other Eds over. Additionally, rather than being rude and disruptive like he would in later seasons, the worst thing he does is make a gagging expression at the food, and even then it's because it's the only way for him to communicate his disgust, as he'd lost his voice.
- Facial Dialogue: Eddy is forced to express himself in this way throughout the episode.
- Either "World Domination", or Something About Bananas: Rolf's translations of Eddy's bell-ringing are.. sketchy.Rolf: "Now, Eddy is thanking us, or he would like his thick toenail clipped."
- Foreign Queasine: Rolf's meal prepared for the Eds consists of bizarre-looking fish sticks (as in, fish tails on a stick) and a sausage that explodes.
- Idiot Ball: Neither Ed, Edd, nor Rolf think of giving Eddy something to write on, nor can they see that Eddy isn't enjoying the Unicycle Of Doom, or the temperature in his house being turned down.
- Killer Rabbit: The rooster Rolf wants Eddy to bullfight is actually very tough and sends Eddy running around the pen. Perhaps he should have listened to Rolf's warning of "Do not taunt the doodle."
- Lost Voice Plot: Eddy loses his voice after swallowing a fly.
- Noodle Incident: Jonny has been apparently "rescuing" Rolf's chickens before, since when Plank intercepts the rooster, he says "Good work, Plank, we've rescued another one!", and upon taking off, Rolf runs after him with "Not again, Jonny! Stop where you stand!"
- Swallowed a Fly: The fly the Eds are chasing flies into Eddy's voice box.
- The Speechless: Eddy for most of the episode.
- Stunned Silence: Edd and Eddy are left flummoxed after Ed assumes that "Eddy needs to water... the Christmas tree because it's dry!"
- There Was a Door: Ed smashes through the screen door at the beginning of the episode.Edd: Ed, the screen door?Ed: Let's watch it.
- The Unintelligible: When Eddy does utter a sound, it comes off as a squeak.
- The Voiceless: Eddy for the sake of the plot. Jimmy does make a non-speaking cameo though.
