The party makes their way into the Sacred Tree where they encounter fiends they have never seen before. On their way toward Nedrick and Jinlorda, Cleo has a heart-to-heart with the spirit of Alberius.
This chapter contains examples of:
- Boss Rush: 20-7 gives the party one with each and every last member of the Agito going from Volk, Ciella, Ayaha & Otoha, Kai Yan and finally Tartarus.
- Empty Shell: Sheila is like Euden, having been revived using a piece of the Other, only her physical form was ever restored.
- Face Death with Dignity: Upon finding out that Cleo had recently spoken to Alberius, Tartarus doesn't do anything to keep Cleo and Nidhogg from finishing him off, accepting his death and allowing himself to part for Alberius.
- Faustian Rebellion: Nedrick wants the Dawnshard not to summon Bahamut, but to kill him.
- Internal Reveal: Zethia tells Euden about her time in the past and that she went with Nedrick on her own.
- Marathon Level: It's one in-universe. At 20-4, the party has only made it HALFWAY up the tree!
- Only the Worthy May Pass: Jinlorda reveals that the way to the Dawnshard is blocked off to a barrier that's not even fairy-made but more technological and will only open to the Auspex, in this case Zethia.
- Unexplained Recovery: The five Agito all reconvene for a showdown in 20-7. This despite Kai Yan being laid out on his ass and Tartarus being killed outright.
- Wham Line: The reveal that the mysterious stranger who saved the party from Jinlorda and Nedric... is Audric, the time-shifted version of King Aurelius.
- Whoever kidnapped Zethia is somebody that she recognizes given her dialogue prior to the end of the chapter.
- Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: Once again, just when Euden is on the cusp of saving Zethia, she gets dragged away by another party. This time, however, the abducting party is completely unknown; the first words out of Nedrick's mouth after the fact are that he is not responsible.
