Tropes

  • Bad Boss: K.Rool allows Baby Kong to thrash his minions around and later threatens them with death if they can’t get him to go to sleep after waking him up.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter:
    • As illustrated by the "Watch Out Baby Kong" number, featuring Donkey and Diddy chasing Baby Kong and desperately trying to keep him out of trouble.
    • K. Rool delights in letting Baby Kong play with Klump and Krusha. No, not as his playmates, but as his toys.
  • Continuity Snarl: An earlier episode treated Baby Kong as just Donkey Kong as a baby. Here he's a separate character.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: K. Rool grows attached to Baby Kong, singing him a sweet lullaby about how he’s going to be his son and heir to the throne. Even after he agrees to give him up due to how much trouble he causes, when he hears what he thinks is Baby Kong, K. Rool gets excited.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: DK and Diddy explain to each other where Baby Kong's tracks don't lead, only to both realize the baby is heading right for K. Rool's lair.
  • Hostage For Macguffin: At first, King K.Rool agrees to hand back Baby Kong in return for the Coconut. Then he decides to keep the little rascal...
  • Human Snowball: DK and Diddy both end up in one while trying to catch Baby Kong as he slides down the White Mountains.
  • Mood Whiplash: The lullaby K.Rool sings to Baby Kong swifts from heartwarming to ominous and back again within a note.
  • Never My Fault: K. Rool successfully sings Baby Kong to sleep but notices Klump and Krusha have also fallen asleep and screams at them to wake up. Since he’s still right over Baby Kong, naturally the kid wakes up from his nap. K. Rool blames his henchmen and vows to kill them if they don’t get the baby back to sleep.
  • Papa Wolf:
    • DK is understandably horrified at the idea of Baby Kong wandering into King K. Rool's lair.
    • K. Rool himself becomes one towards Baby Kong, at least until the baby accidentally makes K. Rool eat a banana. Even then, he quickly finds himself missing him once he’s gone.
