Tropes

  • Adaptational Explanation: According to D.K. in the "Legend of the Crystal Coconut" VHS, K. Rool and Skurvy eventually get their memories back after a few days only to realize the Kongs "made monkeys out of both of them".
  • Banana Peel: How DK loses his memory. The same fate happens to King K. Rool and Skurvy.
  • The Cameo: Eddie The Mean Old Yeti briefly pops up to complain about his club going missing.
  • Continuity Nod: Clips from "Booty and the Beast," "Orangotango," and "The Curse of Kongo Bongo" are used as flashbacks to jog DK's memory.
  • Easy Amnesia: DK loses his memory thanks to a bonk on the head. This makes it easy for Skurvy and later King K. Rool to manipulate him. In the end, it happens to K. Rool and Skurvy after they fall from a cliff and they start to think they're monkeys.
  • Impairment Shot: A blurred shot from DK's POV after he's slipped on a banana peel and fallen down in his elevator is the first sign something is wrong.
  • Impact Silhouette: When DK falls and loses his memory, he's laying in a DK shaped hole in the ground. K. Rool and Skurvy also make respectively shaped holes when they fall and lose their memories.
  • Meaningful Background Event: After DK gets amnesia, there's a scene of Candy complaining about Donkey Kong being late. As she grouses, you can see DK wandering around behind her.
  • Mirror Routine: Done in song in "The Mirror Never Lies"
  • Villain Song: "One of Us" sung by K.Rool to convince DK that they're allies. "The Mirror Never Lies" also qualifies. They both double as Villain Recruitment Songs.
