Tropes

  • Bittersweet Ending: Garbage helps put a stop to Kira's plan to take over the M-Bark and convinces her that her owner, Olga, has never given up on her. He later helps lessen her punishment from the council by having her deliver everyone's messages to their humans on Earth as they continue to find a new planet. At the end, Stella is promoted for her efforts and is now captain. Unfortunately for Garbage, Stella becomes captain of his ship.
  • Book Ends: Garbage ends his message to Chelsea in the first episode, begging her to not get a new dog while he's away. The end of this episode has him seeing her message, which ends with her begging Garbage to not get a new owner while he's out there.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The fireflies, from the magnetic planet Garbage and Happy were stuck on, prove useful in showing Kira her owner's message.
  • Easily Forgiven: Though Kira is arrested for taking over the M-Bark and turning almost everyone feral, her motives aren't entirely unwarranted. With Garbage's help, thanks to the message from her owner Olga, he convinces the M-Bark council to have Kira return to Earth and deliver messages from the station dogs to their respective owners.
    • As far as a few of Garbage's friends are concerned, it's more Forgiven, but Not Forgotten. Nomi was initially mad at her, but appreciates her learning fighting skills from Kira allowed Nomi to beat her in the first place. Stella is a bit more stern about Kira's actions but gives her a break. Chonies and Loaf are actually relieved that she is leaving.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Happy is shocked along with the rest of the cast when Kira turns everyone back into regular dogs.
  • Good News, Bad News: The good news is that by the end of the episode, Stella announces that she has been promoted to Captain. The bad news? She is now in charge of the Pluto, putting Garbage's leadership into question.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Garbage wants to give Olga's message to Kira in hopes she can surrender peacefully. That said, he agrees that Happy's plan to forcefully stop Kira and use the device on her is a good "Plan B" if she doesn't listen to reason.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Kira had spent her entire life believing her owner Olga had abandoned her. After seeing the human's message that she is still calling out to her, Kira finally stands down when she realizes her plan to help her fellow dogs has done more harm than good.
  • Reverse Polarity: After failing to launch themselves off the planet, Atlas and Chonis perform this on the Pluto, allowing it to repel from the planet's magnetic hold.
