Bean is plagued by recurring dreams, while Derek and Bear Boy are misled by Freckles.
Tropes:
- Bad Boss: The leader of the jerkass elves is even willing to beat up his own underlings to extort money from them.
- Bait-and-Switch: Snarla realizes Freckles is playing Derek and Jasper, and confronts him about this... so he'll give her a cut of the profits.
- Big Damn Heroes: Luci for once gets to play this role when he swoops in and takes the goo before the Trogs can force Bean to feed Elfo the goo.
- Call-Back: The jerkass elves use the same tactics on Derek and Jasper as they did on Elfo.
- Cathartic Scream: Bean releases one in her pillow after another nightmare.
- Continuity Nod: Bean's dream chase revisits several locations from previous episodes; Maru's Prophecy Center, the ship used to take her to Maru, the underwater portion of Dreamland Castle, Hell, and Hansel & Gretel's house.
- Faking the Dead: The leader of the jerkass elves pretends to have been killed by Derek. He actually survived (though sustained brain damage), and was paid by Freckles to stage the whole thing.
- Fantastic Racism: The discovery that elves and trogs are one and the same stops the two sides from fighting one another, but it's still clear they don't like one another, as Rulo immediately dismisses attending a trog success seminar with a flimsy excuse.
- Foreshadowing: It's hard to make out due to her speed, but the "Dagmar" Bean chases in her dreams has Bean's messier hair.
- Magic Versus Science: Bean tries to convince the Trogs to give up on magic and embrace science, but they are not interested.
- Manipulative Bastard: Freckles pays the jerkass elves to attack Derek and Jasper, to trick them into beating the elves up and thinking they've killed them, so as to make Derek and Jasper run away from home.
- Pipe Pain: Freckles gets Derek to club the jerk elf with a lead pipe.
- So Much for Stealth: Bean tries to secretly follow the Trogs, but they reveal they knew she was there all along and force her to come out of hiding.
- The Runaway: Jasper and Derek run away from the castle after Derek supposedly kills an elf.
- Tribal Carry: Elfo is caried by the Trog to their ceremony in this manner.
- Wham Shot: The episode ends with Bean finally catching up to "Dagmar", only for her to turn around to reveal she's Bean.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Subverted; when Leavo realizes the secret he had been searching for all these years was just the revelation that Trogs and Elves are the same species, he declares he wasted his life. Rulo tries to cheer him up by pointing out his other accomplishments, but Leavo reveals these failed too, so the king ultimately declares that, yes, Leavo did waste his life.
