Bean, Elfo and Luci become trapped in an underground world full of eerie little creatures with Queen Dagmar. Zøg tries to thwart a plot against him.


Tropes:

  • Brain Food: Near the end of the episode, Bean catches her mom in the act of eating the brain of a decapitated Trøg.
  • Buried Alive: Zøg's fate at the end of the episode.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The Trog stash cave has, among other things, the remains of the party barge, and the Eternity Pendant.
    • When the Arch-Druidess outlaws gambling, she's shown confiscating money from the same gamblers Bean brawled with in the first episode.
    • Dagmar shows Bean the same plans of the castle from "The Dreamland Job", and Bean mentions Slappo's death, though Dagmar claims Slappo and the guard dogs survived plummeting into the bottomless pit.
    • Pendergast mentions his dad died fighting for Zog's father in the war with Dankmire over the canal.
  • A Death in the Limelight: The most focus Pendergast has ever received, showing some Hidden Depths in the process. He’s Killed Offscreen by the end of the episode.
  • Discreet Drink Disposal: Bean quickly throws away her drink while toasting with her mother, since she doesn't trust her mom.
  • Driven to Suicide: When Zøg hears Bean is dead, he loses his will to live and even orders Pendergast to kill him. Fortunately, Elfo arrives in time to tell him Bean is alive.
  • Faking the Dead: Zøg schemes with Pendergast to pretend he has succumbed to his injuries, so Pendergast can smuggle him out of the palace, away from Odval, in a coffin. Too bad the Arch-Druidess finds out.
  • Glowing Flora: The tunnels of Trøgtown are filled with these. They are chopped down for by the Trøgs for their wood.
  • Internal Reveal: Zøg learns that Odval and the Arch-Druidess have staged a coup against him.
  • Ladies and Germs: Dagmar addresses Bean, Elfo, Luci, and the Trøgs as "ladies and whatevers."
  • Mushroom Samba: Happens to Bean, Elfo and Luci when they breathe in the spores of the subterranean mushrooms.
  • The Name Is Bond, James Bond: When introducing himself to Trixy, Elfo states his name is "O", "Elf O".
  • Oh, Crap!: Zøg when he sees Pendergast's head on a pole, and realizes his plan to fake his death has been discovered and he is now at the mercy of whomever is driving the cart his coffin is on.
  • Off with His Head!: How Pendergast is Killed Off for Real in this episode.
  • Pet the Dog: In a weird way. Odval tells Derek his approving Bean, Elfo and Luci's execution has earned his two scoops of melted ice cream for dinner.
  • Saved by the Coffin: King Zøg tries to do this in this episode, pretending to have succumbed to his injuries so that Pendergast can smuggle him out in a coffin away from the scheming Odval. Too bad he's found out by the Arch-Druidess and Buried Alive.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: Dim though he is, Derek manages to realize that if he's the one who makes the rules, that means he's the one who makes the rules, and starts going off-script from Odval and the Arch-Druidess's designs.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Dagmar keeps pulling this on Bean through the episode.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: Odval and the Arch-Druidess, through Derek, start an oppressive regime in which all kinds of fun, like alcohol and gambling, are forbidden.
