Japanese Title: A Squid Beast Evolution! Calmaramon
Back at their base, Mercuremon and Ranamon reflect on Grottomon’s defeat and how Arbormon is nowhere to be found. Ranamon is reluctant to try her hand at fighting them, but when Mercuremon figures out that she’s afraid of fighting them when she doesn’t have a Beast Spirit, Ranamon is incensed enough to declare that she’ll beat the kids easily.
Ranamon tracks the kids down to an island and realizes that, even though she’s had her servants search far and wide for her Beast Spirit, she hasn’t checked that location yet. She decides to have her “fan club” search for her Beast Spirit there and formulates a plan.
The kids wave goodbye to Whamon after he drops them off on the island, and Izumi and Junpei are in high spirits from Izumi having recovered her Human Spirit and Junpei having received his Beast Spirit. Some Toucanmon, listening in on the conversation, conclude that Junpei is referring to Ranamon’s Beast Spirit and decide to steal it so that Ranamon, whom they’re enamored with, will be pleased.
The kids promptly enjoy themselves at the beach, although Kouji tells them not to let up on their guard. The others convince him to lighten up and take a break, and they soon run into a beach hut run by the Toucanmon. The Toucanmon serve them food, and the kids are happy to find that the less-than-stellar food fits their perfect stereotype of beach food. The Toucanmon then provide the kids with a bunch of swimming equipment and swim suits, and with that the boys promptly enjoy relaxing in the ocean, leaving their belongings behind.
As the Toucanmon try to steal Izumi’s Digivice, they walk in on her changing, and the resulting scream causes the boys to rush over...only to get clothes thrown at them by an angry Izumi. After everything’s settled down, Izumi says that she knows someone was peeping on her, and the kids decide to ask the Toucanmon if they’ve seen anyone suspicious. When they look through their belongings, however, they realize that the Toucanmon have stolen their Digivices, and they chase them in order to get them back.
Ranamon makes her appearance to the kids and demands the Spirits, and Izumi, incensed, responds cheekily. Ranamon responds by attacking, her abilities amplified by the ocean around her, and Izumi, as the only one with a Digivice, decides to compensate for all of the times she couldn’t evolve and thus spirit evolves to Fairymon. Fairymon and Ranamon start a catfight, with Fairymon somewhat at a disadvantage due to being in Ranamon’s turf, but Ranamon is suddenly distracted when she senses her Beast Spirit deep in the water and goes to claim it.
Ranamon calls the Beast Spirit of Water to herself and emerges from the water as Calmaramon, whom the Toucanmon find...less than attractive. The disheartened Toucanmon quit the Ranamon fan club and walk off, taking the Digivices with them, while the other kids remark on how Calmarmon seems to be ugly in both appearance and personality. Calmaramon, however, turns out to be rather powerful, and the only thing that keeps her from finishing off Fairymon is her lack of control over the Beast Spirit causing her to veer in random directions and eventually out of sight.
Knowing that the Toucanmon can’t have gone very far, the kids take the opportunity to go after them in the hopes of getting their Digivices back.

- Accidental Pervert: Two; the one mentioned in the above description and a second one caused by the boys forgetting Izumi was in the room with them and deciding to undress. She's noticeably...uncomfortable.
- Eye Catch: Takuya and Izumi’s variants are used for this episode.
- Idiot Ball: How the boys thought it would be a good idea to leave their Digivices out in the open in the changing rooms is anyone’s guess.
- Jaw Drop: Bokomon, Neemon, Junpei, and the Toucanmon all do this when they first see Calmaramon.
- Mythology Gag: This is not the first time in Digimon that beach huts have been dangerous.
- Not So Above It All: Despite trying to look otherwise, Kouji is pretty clearly enjoying himself with the beach festivities.
- Pun-Based Title: The Japanese title of the episode contains ikashita, which can either mean "cool" or "squid-like".
- Punch! Punch! Punch! Uh Oh...: When Calmaramon attacks Kazemon tries to stop her with a combo of kiss that don't do anything to the villainess who proceeds to slap her, knocking her out.
- Shout-Out: The dub title is a reference to Beastie Boys.
