Summary

We begin with summary brushing off Joey's advances so she can ask out Wheels. Despite the disaster that was their last date, he agrees to go to a movie with her. After the credits, Wheels recounts this information to Joey, and Joey, not jealous at all recounts it to Shane and another guy. Stephanie tries to share this with Voula, but Voula is still holding a grudge over the events over the first episode. Luckily, Heather and Erica are much more interested. Stephanie tells them her plan to dress up sexy for Wheels, and they point out her mom doesn't know the way she dresses at school and ask what she'll think, to which Stephanie has no answer. Stopping at the pharmacy her mother works, Stephanie discovers her mom has a date for the same night she's going out with Wheels, making things much easier for her.

Over in the B-Plot, Yick shows Arthur a video he borrowed from his brother: Swamp Sex Robots. "This is pornography!" says Arthur. They establish they can't watch it at Yick's place, and Arthur is staying at his mom's over the weekend, so Yick ask if they can watch it there. Arthur isn't sure. The next day Arthur has informed Yick that Stephanie is his sister, but when he tries to get her attention, she is as dismissive as ever. However she tells him both she and their mom are going out on Friday, to Yick and Arthur's enthusiasm. "Swamp sex robots, here we come!"

In the library, Steph and the twins are gossiping about her future date with Wheels. Erica asks what Steph will do if Wheels "tries something", to which Steph responds she might let him. Shane and The Other Guy overhear this, and go to tell Wheels that he's going to "make it" with Stephanie. Wheels is clearly not enthused, but under the influence of his peers, claims "if she wants it, she'll get it." "All the way with Stephanie Kaye!" cheer Shane and whatshisname. They have this conversation in the bathroom, and after they leave, Arthur emerges from a stall, having overheard everything.

In English class, Stephanie sends Wheels a note telling him to meet her at her house for their date, and Shane starts spreading a rumour through the class that Steph and Wheels are going to go all the way. After class Heather complains that Steph agreed to a date, not going all the way, and tells her she should cancel the whole date. Erica says that if she cancels, Wheels won't see her again. Steph dismissively insists that "sex is no big deal". Voula appears out of nowhere, and calls Stephanie the "school sleaze - oops, I mean president." In the corridors, Kathleen complains to Melanie about the school president contemplating sex before marriage, whereas Melanie thinks it's romantic.

Wheels tries to talk to his dad about the first time he had sex, and Wheels' dad tells him he's too young for sex. At dinner with her mom, Stephanie tries to broach the same subject, then changes her mind immediately.

At school, Joey insists Wheels get "protection", leading him to the chemist and then abandoning him when it's time to buy. Coincidentally, the chemist Wheels buys condoms from is in fact Steph's mom, and she offers him some pamphlets on becoming sexually active. Voula confronts Stephanie over whether she's really going to have sex with Wheels. Stephanie says that she already messed up one date, and she wants Wheels to like her. Voula insists that if that's the only reason he likes her that isn't a good reason to do it, to which Stephanie says maybe she wants to do it to. "Do you?" asks Voula. Stephanie doesn't answer.

At home, Arthur plans to call Yick as soon as he knows when his mom is going out, and Yick plans to bring some other people along. Arthur asks Steph about her date with Wheels, and tells her he doesn't like people saying bad things about her. Steph appears touched, but insists she can take care of herself. When she gets home, their mom tells them her date is picking her up at 7:30, the same time Wheels is picking Steph up, and Arthur calls Yick to tell him when to come over. Over dinner, Steph's mom tries to talk to them both about sex and give them the same pamphlets, but they do their best not to listen and rush her out the door.

Wheels goes to buy flowers for Stephanie, while Stephanie dolls herself up for her date, having to throw a bathrobe over to hide her outfit from her mom when she asks for advice. Wheels shows up to the Kaye household, unfortunately at the same time as Mrs. Kaye's date. Arthur answers the door and, recognising Wheels, tries to get rid of him. Not knowing Steph and Arthur are siblings, Wheels is just confused: "What are you doing here?" Arthur can't get rid of Wheels before Mrs. Kaye comes to answer the door, and she recognises Wheels as the boy from the drugstore.

"Stephanie, get down here!"

Throwing open Stephanie's robe, her mom discovers the revealing outfit underneath and sits her and Wheels down for a lecture, cancelling her own date. Then Yick and Yick's friends arrive at the door. "We wanna see the porno!"

The next day at school, Wheels tells Joey that nothing happened, he and Steph's dates don't work out, and they're just going to be friends from now on - giving Joey permission to keep persuing her. Stephanie is complaining to Voula about how long she's grounded, but is relieved she didn't actually have to have sex with Wheels. Voula is sympathetic, but asks if Steph actually would have gone through with it. Steph doesn't answer.

Tropes appearing in this episode:

  • Call-Back:
  • Characterisation Click Moment: The twins personalities start to diverge, with Heather insisting Steph doesn't have to have sex with Wheels, while Erica insists she should because otherwise he won't like her anymore.
  • A Friend in Need: Voula might still be mad at Stephanie, but when she realises Steph is contemplating losing her virginity, she tries to assure her she doesn't have to and apologises for insulting her. By the end of the episode, they appear to have reconciled.
  • A Man Is Always Eager: Averted. Steph and Wheels both appear as unsure about having sex as each other, although Wheels' friends expect him to fulfill this trope.
  • Parents as People: Mrs. Kaye clearly cares about her children, but also slut shames and humiliates her daughter. Values Dissonance plays a role here.
  • Peer Pressure Makes You Evil: Downplayed, but it's clear that neither Steph nor Wheels is particularly eager to have sex, it's just because of the comments of their peers that they feel like they have to.
