Tropes

  • All Just a Dream: The episode begins with the FBI being invaded by an axe murderer. Reid is the last man standing, but his gun jams. Then we find out it's him telling his therapist about a recurring dream.
  • Breather Episode: There is a case, but it is far less intense than the usual serial-killer-who-dismembers-people plots this show goes for. Emily and Rossi spend the day at Matt's watching him prepare for the fifth baby. Reid takes the day off and goes to the park.
  • Brick Joke: Reid magics a coin away for a kid's amusement. Then a man standing nearby gets mad at him for throwing a coin at him.
  • Call-Back:
  • Captain Obvious: Maxine's nephew is fond of stating the obvious.
    • He informs Reid that Reid has a weird haircut and and slender neck.
    • After learning where Reid works, he tells him that the FBI has 35,000 employees.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Reid's shrink asks what he thinks about his dream. Reid starts profiling the axe murderer in the dream. (Probable schizoaffective disorder.)
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Brian, Emily's old neighbor, feels watched by the government.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Prentiss gets Lewis to do this to Brian, since she looks like his ex wife.
  • Hates Being Touched: A random kid tries to touch Reid's hair. Although he's mostly over his germ phobia, Reid is not a fan of this.
  • Hidden Depths: Rossi discovers Matt has a talent for writing, and offers to make Matt a co-author with his next few true crime novels, the royalties from which will give Matt and his wife a bit of help with their financial troubles.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Invoked by Tara when she reluctantly agrees to help Emily deal with her conspiracy theorist neighbour.
Tara Lewis: If this works, you owe me a lot of drinks.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: JJ urges Spencer to pursue his burgeoning relationship with Maxine, saying his afternoon with her has made Spencer happier than he's been in a long time.
  • Lady Drunk: Prentiss spends most of her Saturday drinking wine and watching Rossi and Matt struggle putting a crib for Matt's new baby together.
  • Mood Whiplash: A more humorous example than most, but the feel-good moment of Matt agreeing to co-author Rossi's next book which might help his family's financial troubles is abruptly ended by Kristy telling them her water just broke.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Reid has a lot of nightmares about all his friends dying and his gun not working.
  • Reverse Psychology: Tara figures the only way to deal with someone like Brian is to play along with their delusions, so she tells him he is being watched, just not by the FBI.
  • Screaming Birth: Matt's wife gives birth while screaming at him to burn the red crib he bought.
  • Shipper on Deck: Max's sister Michelle tells Reid that Max is single and comes with a dowry because their father thinks she'll never get married.
  • Stalker with a Crush: The guy they thought was stalking Elizabeth was really stalking Elizabeth's boyfriend – by setting up a secret entrance to her apartment and hiding under her bed while they were having sex in it.
  • Stupid Sexy Flanders: Garcia informs Luke that looking like that doesn't mean he can say whatever he wants.
  • What Have We Ear?: Reid distracts a kid out of having an anxiety attack this way.
