Emily is suspended and Reid refuses to work without her. A jealous ex-boyfriend has gotten homicidal over the loss of his girlfriend. Barnes makes an unwise decision that nearly gets the woman killed.

- Badass Boast: JJ gives one to Barnes and while the rest of the team are silent, it's pretty clear from their mood they agree with every word.
JJ: We've known from the minute you started with Prentiss you've wanted to shut down the BAU, the same way you shut down the IRT. So you know what? Keep taking your best shot, and maybe you will get us...
but we're damn sure gonna take you down too.
- Call-Back: Emily feels she deserves to quit because she deleted Reid's drug-addled confession in season 12.
- Barnes justifies letting the UnSub talk to a woman he's obsessed with because a similar tactic worked in New York. JJ counters by pointing out that in that case, the woman the UnSub spoke with was in no danger of becoming a victim.
- Barnes also discusses the the death of Peter Lewis with Alvez.
- Dispense with the Pleasantries: Rossi angrily tells Barnes to cut the small talk about spending time with his daughter and grandson in a pretty transparent attempt to get him to take early retirement.
- Evil Is Petty: After the team make no secret of their disdain for her and accurately point out how her failings nearly destroyed the entire case, Barnes has the team split apart and reassigned out of spite.
- Hate Sink: Barnes makes herself quickly hated by not only the BAU but also the local police running the investigation by talking down to them and treating them like servants, much to JJ's annoyance.
- Out of Character Is Serious Business: The normally calm and placid Tara is literally shaking with fury when she confronts Barnes over ordering her to lie to a victim's girlfriend so she won't fall apart and be unable to provide the BAU information.
Tara Lewis: Don't you ever order me to do something like that again!
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: JJ doesn't bother to hide her fury at Barnes for screwing up the B.A.U's plan, putting a victim's life in danger and forcing them to kill the UnSub.
Barnes: Justin's blood is on all of you, I will make sure my report says so!
JJ: Then let me tell you what my report will say. That we agreed on a theory to engage Justin based on our profile, which was working until you went rogue and in doing so, you risked the life of a woman we had already saved and forced us to kill our prime suspect.
Barnes:(seething) Why don't we show the video to the director and let him decide?
- Simmons, who has had previous experience with Barnes, doesn't bother to hold back his distaste for her.
Linda Barnes: Is the team always like this? Edgy, combatative...
Matt Simmons: Honestly, it's because of you. We know what you did with the IRT and now you're trying to do the same thing with the BAU.
Matt Simmons: You said the same thing about the IRT.
- Undying Loyalty: Reid to Prentiss. He flatly refuses to work with Barnes after she insinuates Emily has failed as Unit Chief.
Spencer Reid: Emily Prentiss is not a poor leader, she defined what a Unit Chief should be and I'm not going to stand by and watch you destroy her career.
- Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Luke clearly doesn't like Barnes commending him for letting Mr. Scratch fall to his death.
