Recap / Criminal Case SI Case 17 Dont Die Over Spilled Milk

Go To

The hunters arrive at Chicago, Illinois for the first part of their quest given by Agnes Leek only to soon discover the body of journalist Todd Anderson, who was sliced open from crotch to throat in the plaza of Bellevue Towers. Based on how the victim died, it seems like the urban legend of a vengeful spirit known as the Milkman got to him.

Tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: Felix joins you for the investigation for Chapter 1 and the additional investigation. Gwen takes over for Chapter 2 and 3 because of the former getting shot in the arm by Clybourn, also holding him at knifepoint during one point.
  • Cute Witch: Avery, a teenage witch qualifies, helping her actually is part of Agnes' quest!
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Clybourn might very well be battier than Bathsheba, to put it lightly. He even thinks he himself's the Milkman at one point, but that thankfully gets disproven.
  • Dreaming Of Things Gone By: Gwen's demonic nightmares reveal what happened during the demon war, and that their queen was in a cage slowly dying.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Lyla reveals her mom was murdered when she was only 7 years old, and the only explanation given to her was The Milkman, when the police couldn't find her mom's killer, making her feel like the urban legend was needed in Bellevue Towers and when Todd was going to debunk the legend once and for all, she killed him like the Milkman would.
  • Groin Attack: Todd suffers one nasty slash from the downstairs to his throat.
  • Improvised Weapon: A metal hook was used to slash Todd.
  • Missing Child: Turns out, we learn Kevin wasn't the only kid gone missing recently, according to George. Talking to one of the missing childrens' brother Danny reveals he saw his own brother being taken away by a monster. We later learn who that monster is.
  • Mistaken for Aliens: Clybourn thinks Felix is an alien from Pluto for some reason, leading to him shooting and later taking him hostage.
  • Poverty Food: It's revealed the killer eats government cheese.
  • "Scooby-Doo" Hoax: Surprisingly ironic for a season where this wouldn't be the case normally. It turns out the Milkman isn't real, and that it's Lyla who murdered Todd to keep the legend going.
  • Shout-Out: Multiple to the Candyman series, likely as a promotion of the requel that would have released alongside the game had it not been for the pandemic.
    • Todd is in reference to the Candyman's most famous actor, Tony Todd
    • Lyla is meant to be Helen Lyle.
    • The Milkman is obviously meant to the Candyman himself, but thankfully in this case he's a hoax.
  • Token White: Lyla Heller is this for the suspect list, everybody else is African American.
  • Urban Legends: The Milkman, the killer tried to make it look said murderous milkman killed him
