Calm after the storm.

Jazz Town is the fourth district investigated in Criminal Case: Pacific Bay.

Primarily based on New Orleans, Jazz Town serves as the historical center of Pacific Bay, with its classy architecture and old estates being present wherever the player goes. Jazz clubs, carnivals, and even Civil War reenactments serve as the main points of attraction in the district, making of it a pretty colorful place. Unfortunately, a devastating storm known as Hurricane Yves has recently struck the district, leaving hundreds of homeless and destruction in its wake.

Jazz Town primarily focuses on two subplots. First there's the aftermath of Hurricane Yves, how it has affected the general population, and the conspiracy theories about a Weather-Control Machine being behind the whole ordeal, with the threat of a second hurricane destroying the city soon coming into light. The second is the return of The Puppeteer, a Serial Killer who terrorized Jazz Town for decades but suddenly stopped killing ten years ago, and now it seems like they have decided to step out of the shadows once again.

    Cases Set in Jazz Town
  1. After the Storm: A jazz musician is cut up into pieces and arranged like musical notes on tramway cables.
  2. Cloudy with a Chance of Murder: A weatherman has his neck sliced among the ruins of a house.
  3. Open Wounds: An actor gets blown up by a cannonball during a Civil War reenactment.
  4. Under the Thunderdome: A thief has a weather vane jammed down his throat during a hurricane evacuation.
  5. Of Rats and Men: An escaped convict is tied up and devoured by rats in the middle of a riot.
  6. The Eye of the Storm: A stormchaser is electrocuted to death atop of a weather tower.
  7. Hanging by a Thread: A cabaret dancer is chopped up and hanged like a puppet during an annual carnival.

Tropes:

  • Arc Villain: A Big Bad Ensemble between Veronica Blade and Freddie Alonzo. The former is the one responsible for stealing the army's weather machine and using it to create two hurricanes in an attempt to destroy Jazz Town, and the latter is the true identity of The Puppeteer, a serial killer who has terrorized the district for decades.
  • The Big Easy: Jazz Town is clearly based on New Orleans, with its buildings resembling the ones found in the aforementioned city's French Quarter, music clubs being a prominent part of its identity, and even the annual Jazz Town Carnival having an important role in the district's storyline, with Russell calling it "Mardi Gras" at one point. And even if none of its cases take place in a swamp, Jazz Town is connected to Bayou Bleu in the map.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Yann gets to be in the spotlight during this district, as his Dark and Troubled Past and connections with The Puppeteer are explored in the story.
  • Recurring Character: The main recurring characters for Jazz Town are Peggy Pascal, Colonel Spangler, and Veronica Blade for the hurricane portions of the district's storyline, and Freddie Alonzo, Dinah Cooper, Stanley Bullock, and Madeleine Deville for The Puppeteer parts.
  • Serial Killer: One of the district's goals is uncovering the identity of The Puppeteer, a legendary serial killer who terrorized Jazz Town for decades and is now planning to make its big comeback.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: Like Inner City, Jazz Town has two important plots going on at the same time during its storyline: the Weather-Control Machine responsible for creating both hurricanes that have massacred the district, and the return of the notorious Serial Killer known as The Puppeteer and their connections with Yann's Dark and Troubled Past.
  • Weather-Control Machine: A portion of Jazz Town focuses on finding out about one of these, which was created by the military but got stolen by a mysterious individual to create hurricanes with the purpose of destroying the district for personal gain.
