The quest for the puzzle pieces brings the Stump Kids to a strange village covered in moss.
Tropes:
- But Thou Must!: The mayor asks if the kids want to hear the story of their town, and holds up signs for "yes" and "no," clearly indicating yes. When Kelsey seems like she's about to pick "no", the mayor throws the "no" sign away.
- Calling a Rabbit a "Smeerp": The Mayor of Moss Village warns the kids of "blood dragons" in the swamp, which the graphics playing behind him clearly indicate that they are just mosquitoes.
- RPG Episode: The Stump kids and Omar find a village of kids acting as NPCs in a roleplay video game. They have to play along to get the next piece of the puzzle cube.
- Shout-Out: The whole episode takes inspiration from JRPGs:
- The title is likely a reference to Chrono Cross, which conveniently was re-released close to this episode's debut.
- A rock based currency called "Bluepees" and trying to get them by breaking pots and cutting grass is likely a nod to The Legend of Zelda.
- When the group talk to the mosquitoes, the view is placed in a way that it looks like when fighting a battle in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
- The fight with the mosquitoes is likely a reference to Final Fantasy.
- Sixth Ranger Traitor: Omar betrays the Creek crew after the blood dragons are defeated. Kelsey says it's because he's been corrupted by their bite, but Craig sees it's because he's afraid of giving up the routine familiarity of roleplaying the game.
- Sudden Video-Game Moment: The fight with the "blood dragons" is shown as a 16-bit video game.
- Welcome to Corneria: The shopkeeper keeps repeating the same question to Kelsey when the latter tries to get information other than shopping. When the group does shopping, the shopkeeper starts talking about her wares.
