Written & storyboarded by Leiana Nitura & Ashley Tahilan

Kelsey and Stacks collaborate on a story together, but Kelsey's true feelings come through in the writing.

Tropes:

  • Alternate Universe Fic: Craig made an AU fanfic for Slide the Ferret, where he’s a detective.
  • Art Imitates Life: When Craig points out that Fire and Ice are much like Kelsey and Stacks, Stacks quotes the trope’s name.
  • Art Shift: When Kelsey and Stacks write their story, the characters are shown in a detailed graphic novel-like style.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Kelsey drowns her sorrows not with alcohol, but with chocolate milk after she realized the characters in her story are basically her and Stacks and she realizes she might have feelings for her.
  • Elemental Motifs: Discussed. When Kelsey goes to talk to Kat, J.P.'s sister's girlfriend, Kelsey explains that Fire is meant to represent her namesake by being warm and caring but also very intense.
  • Fire/Ice Duo: The protagonists (and accidental self-inserts) for Kelsey and Stacks' book are called Fire and Ice.
  • LGBT Awakening: There were previous hints Kelsey was attracted to other girls (usually Wildernessa), but this episode seems to be the first time she consciously thought of such feelings for someone like Stacks as romantic. Part of it even involves her getting advice from another same-sex couple, in the form of J.P.'s sister Laura and her girlfriend Kat; even though that fact seems incidental to Kelsey, and she wants to ask Kat about what she thinks is a problem with her writing, she still phrases the issue as "need[ing] to talk to someone who knows more about that kind of stuff".
Kelsey: [narrating to herself] Kelsey pondered her literary predicament. Was Kelsey... truly like Fire? Was Stacks truly like Ice? Were Kelsey and Stacks like... Fire and Ice?
[Her novel's cover changes from an elf knight and a princess to Kelsey riding the horse, with Stacks hugging her tightly]
Kelsey: [sounding uncertain and dropping her British accent] W-would that... be okay?
  • Love Confession: Kelsey and Stacks confess to each other at the end of the episode.
  • Love Epiphany: Seeing how much the other kids think of Fire and Ice as like Kelsey and Stacks makes Kelsey realize she likes Stacks the same way their characters like each other.
  • Luminescent Blush: Kelsey and Stacks blush at each other numerous times.
  • Muse Abuse: An accidental example; once Kelsey realizes how much she and Stacks put themselves into the protagonists of their book, she gets embarrassed that they're telling their audience. She almost cancels the book and stops writing with Stacks entirely.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Kelsey and Stacks' long-standing platonic relationship (with hints of romance) evolves into a fully-fledged romantic relationship!
  • Write Who You Know: Invoked. Stacks and Kelsey ended up making the title characters of their book Fire & Ice like themselves without realizing it. Kat tells Kelsey that's fine, because they shouldn't be afraid to bring their own experiences into their fiction.
