On a rainy day at Kelsey's house, the trio are tasked with ordering and picking up take-out for dinner.

Tropes:

  • Boring Return Journey: The walk to the Thai place is depicted, but not the walk back to Kelsey's house.
  • Deus ex Machina: The kids need to boil water for rice, but aren't allowed to turn on the stove. For no reason at all, the knob turns into the correct position at that exact moment by itself.
  • Fear of Thunder: The episode opens with Craig and J.P. standing at the door of Kelsey's house out in the rainstorm, with the former begging for Kelsey to let them in because "it's scary out here".
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: After discovering the Thai place forget to give them rice, Kelsey has an Imagine Spot of her father screaming in pain and losing his sense of taste from eating kua kling without relief from the rice, while surrounded by fire.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: The kids make picking up takeout during a rainy day into an epic quest.
  • Picky Eater: Craig states he doesn't care which restaurant they'll choose, and then proceeds to turn down the first three food choices for reasons (wings are too greasy, sandwiches can be made anytime, and he and his family already had pizza the other day).
  • Rain, Rain, Go Away: A rainstorm forces the kids to hang out at Kelsey's house instead of the creek. They end up going out in the rain to pick up takeout dinner (the Thai restaurant couldn't do delivery because of the weather).
  • Shown Their Work: The reason rice is treated as Serious Business is because it offers relief for Kelsey's dad when he eats spicy foods. And it's true that rice can be a remedy for the effects of spiciness since, as a starch, it can absorb some of the capsaicin.
  • Super-Stoic Shopkeeper: The woman working at the restaurant's counter speaks with a monotone voice and is unfazed by three kids pretending to be adults, two of whom stacked on each other, as they pick up their order.
  • Time Stands Still: To the kids, the traffic light turning red makes the cars and even the rain float in place.
  • Totem Pole Trench: When pretending to be an adult over the phone, J.P. sits on Kelsey's shoulders in order to get in character. Kelsey asks how is this necessary if they're talking over the phone. Later, Kelsey stands on J.P.'s hands when picking up their order at the restaurant.
  • Twinkle in the Sky: Happens when the wind carries away J.P. by his umbrella, although it turns out to be an Imagine Spot.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Kelsey and Craig are not surprised by the stove suddenly turning itself on for no reason. J.P. on the other hand...
  • Voice Changeling: Downplayed, J.P. fakes an adult voice while ordering from the Thai restaurant over the phone, due to the trio being under the impression that they wouldn't serve kids. It turns out the server wasn't fooled by the ruse, but took their order anyways.
  • When He Smiles: Kelsey's father gives the kids a rare smile after successfully getting take out and making rice. To them, it looks like he's radiating light.
