J.P. believes he may be from another planet, so Craig tries to help him make contact.

Tropes:

  • Abnormal Limb Rotation Range: J.P. is able to bend his hands to spell his initials, which Craig and Kelsey find weird and is part of the reason they think he might be an alien. Later, they see J.P. and Laura bend their fingers backwards when doing the "Mercer high-five", which convinces them that his whole family might be aliens.
  • Confirmation Bias: In-universe Craig maps J.P.'s freckles and says they align with the stars in the sky as proof he's an alien...if you ignore all the ones that don't match up.
  • Continuity Nod: Laura mentions the time J.P. hurt himself playing as a horse in "J Pony".
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: Even Mortimor is weirded out by J.P. and Laura's Abnormal Limb Rotation Range.
  • Insane Troll Logic: What leads the gang into concluding that J.P. is an alien.
  • It Runs in the Family: It appears the whole Mercer family are double-jointed, at least with their hands.
  • Literal-Minded: After Laura jokes that J.P. is "just not human", he takes it literally and starts believing he's an alien.
  • Mistaken for Aliens: After Craig and Kelsey do some tests on J.P., they become convinced that he might be an alien, and he starts believing it as well. The Junior Forest Scouts think so too, and plan to hand him over to the government.
  • Must Be Invited: Discussed. When J.P. thinks he might be a vampire, he deduces that is the reason he doesn't get invited to places.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The Junior Forest Scouts react this way when J.P. gets injured and breaks his arm running away from them, proving he's human after all. Jason meekly says he knows how to do First Aid.
  • Stylistic Self-Parody: Craig mentions how weird J.P.'s ear is and how it has no visible ear hole.
  • Too Dumb to Live: When the Junior Forest Scouts have cornered him, J.P. thinks he can use his alien powers to jump over a waterfall. He jumps... and breaks his arm from the subsequent fall.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Kelsey tries to hold off the Junior Forest Scouts to give J.P. time to run. They stuff her into a pet carrier in response.
