The remains of Donna D'Amico (reported missing in 1981) are found in the trunk of a car in a junkyard.

Tropes:

  • Alliterative Name: Donna D’Amico.
  • Bittersweet Ending: As to be expected: Donna's killer is arrested and Marisa both learns that her mother didn't abandon her and will get justice in her case, but she is still damaged from being raised in a lonely, unloving home. Also, all but one of the coworkers Donna worked so hard to impress care nothing about her death and haven't learned much in the way of humility or honesty in the years since.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: Oscar sent Marisa a Christmas card, pretending to be her dead mother.
  • Finally Found the Body: Donna was thought to have abandoned her daughter Marisa before her remains were found.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: Oscar denies killing Donna and stealing her bonus but the detectives questioning him never said the stolen money was a bonus.
  • Jerkass: Almost all of Donna's coworkers and bosses were sexist, racist, and ageist scumbags. Moreso, her disappearance and death did nothing to change this: her former boss is still training his employees how to swindle customers and his dragon, long since moved on from the job, still uses the underhanded business skills he learned whilst working there as a funeral director who bullies grieving families into buying overpriced caskets and making other exorbitant funeral arrangements.
  • Parental Abandonment: Marisa never met her father and was a kid when Donna was killed.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Donna's daughter was raised by her resentful grandmother.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: How Donna was treated on the job, albeit being very good at selling cars. Unfortunately in the present day, women are still treated as second-class citizens at the dealership with one of the only women on the job being little more than an errand girl/maid.
