Recap / Code Prime - R2: Revolution, 34 "The Calm Before The Storm"

Go To

While the Grand Alliance takes a moment to rest from the battle with Damocles and try to get information on what their arch nemesis is really planning from Soundwave, as the countdown to Neo-Ragnarök reaches it's end.

  • Adaptational Context Change: Steeljaw is outraged when he discovers the true plan of the Decepticon he was working for, lashing out "You lied to us! To me!" before trying to attack them. However, in the Robots in Disguise cartoon, he said this to Megatronus after learning he plans to destroy both Earth and Cybertron, while here he says it to Megatron after learning his Assimilation Plot.
  • Adaptational Explanation: To Soundwave's catchphrase of "Soundwave superior, X inferior". Jeremiah hypothesizes that Soundwave considered himself above all other Cybertronians besides Megatron.
  • Assimilation Plot: Neo-Ragnarök is intended to turn every living being in its range of effect into an extension of Megatron's will, essentially making him the center of a universe-wide Hive Mind.
  • Cliffhanger: The chapter ends with Soundwave and his minions reclaiming the Dark Star Saber, Cera, and Nunnally, giving Megatron everything he needs to complete his plans. To hammer the point home, Rai, despite trying to stop Soundwave, fails and can only watch helplessly as Soundwave makes off with his prizes.
  • Eviler than Thou: Steeljaw just wanted to take over the Decepticons and become a Galactic Conqueror, and is thus horrified by the scope of Megatron's plans.
  • Evil Vs Oblivion: The conflict between Steeljaw's pack and Megatron devolves into this, as while Steeljaw wants to rule Earth, Megatron's would enslave all the universe to his will with effectively zero chance to break free.
  • Foil: Jeremiah and Soundwave are finally given this status, with it being acknowledged that both are defined by their loyalty to their respective masters and how far they will go in the name of that loyalty. The main difference is that Jeremiah's masters are far better people than Megatron.
  • Godhood Seeker: Megatron's ultimate goal with Neo-Ragnarök is to turn all sentient life into an extension of himself, stating that it will make him a god.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: When it becomes apparent that Megatron's endgame will enslave everyone to his will, Steeljaw, Slipstream, Sky-Byte, and Thundercracker all decide to jump ship to maintain their freedom, and are implied to be seeking an Enemy Mine scenario with the Autobots.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Knock Out nonchalantly joins the Autobot-Black Knight Alliance, having missed the old days of working on the Lancelot alongside Lloyd.
  • Hypocrite: Steeljaw accuses Megatron of lying to him and the other Decepticons, but Megatron says back that he knows how Steeljaw has been attempting to deceive him the whole time to take over the Decepticons and rule Earth himself.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: Knock Out explains how he tried to stay out of the war for as long as he could, and only joined the Decepticons when he realized he had to pick a side and it seemed like they were going to win. This also easily helps convince him to defect from the Decepticons, since he has no true loyalty to Megatron or his cause and it was pointed out how Megatron essentially left him for dead.
  • I Regret Nothing: Despite how much he's changed from the arrogant and vengeance-driven schoolboy he was when he first met the Autobots, Lelouch concedes to his remaining siblings (Laila among them) that he doesn't regret killing Clovis and would do it again because Clovis had still sanctioned the massacre of an entire Eleven/Japanese settlement.
  • It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time: Grimlock says this verbatim when it is revealed that he was the one who thought of the Dinobots' original name, the "Lightning Strike Coalition Force", since he now considers it an Old Shame.
  • Kick the Dog: Mild example, but Lelouch firmly declares to Laila that he doesn't regret killing their brother Clovis and would do it again. He also admits that he did it more out of spite, than the fact that Clovis ordered a massacre to cover up the existence of Code-R.
  • The Reveal:
    • The true nature of Neo-Ragnarök is revealed: Megatron will use the Sword of Akasha to gain control of C's World via injecting it with Dark Energon. He will then use a spacebridge to spread this to Cybertron, which will also spread the energy across the galaxy, allowing him to assimilate everything else in existence between those two points.
    • As has been implied, Steeljaw ultimately wants to lead the Decepticons himself and has always had plans to betray Megatron, which come up short here.
    • We finally learn why Knock Out joined the Decepticons. Somewhat predictably, he tried to stay out of the war, then joined them because they looked like they would win.
  • Shout-Out: When Laserbeak invades Ratchet's laboratory to capture Cera and Nunnally, we get this bit from Tamaki:
  • Undying Loyalty: Exemplified and discussed. Much like in the animated series, Soundwave demonstrates that he would rather go offline than even think of betraying Megatron in any degree. When Suzaku raves about why and how Soundwave could be so loyal to the one that practically destroyed their home world, Jeremiah enunciates how strong and deep some loyalties can run.
  • Villainous Rescue: Played With in that it is a group of Decepticons saving another Decepticon from an even worse threat. Slipstream, Thundercracker, and Sky-Byte secretly rescue Steeljaw from Megatron after they overhear what Neo-Ragnarök is through his hacked comms, with Slipstream telling him to destroy the ground beneath him before they open a Groundbrdge under him as he falls, making Megatron and the others believe he's dead.
  • Wham Episode: Megatron reveals his plans for Neo-Ragnarök, which leads to Steeljaw, Slipstream, Thundercracker, and Sky-Byte abandoning him, with apparent plans to pull an Enemy Mine with the Autobots. Ravage and Laserbeak manage to free Soundwave and retrieve the Dark Star Saber and Cera while also kidnapping Nunnally, giving Megatron everything he needs to complete his plans.
