Recap / Code Prime - R2: Revolution, 33 "The New Prime"

Go To

The heroes scramble to survive as the Damocles attacks Horai Island while their beloved leader is at death's doorstep.

  • All for Nothing: Discussed and defied. Nunnally and the others begin to apologise for using up what's left of the Forge's power to repair Optimus, meaning they can't use it to repair Cybertron. Ratchet and Ultra Magnus point out if they hadn't done so, the Autobot/Black Knight Alliance very likely would have lost the battle, rendering it a moot point.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: As set up in the previous chapter, the Decepticons launch an attack on Horai Island.
  • Back from the Dead: In a standard for the Transformers franchise, Optimus Prime dies and then gets resurrected shortly thereafter.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Given the previous chapter's cliffhanger, it would be reasonable to assume that this chapter's title refers to Lelouch replacing Optimus as the Prime. Instead, what ultimately happens is that Optimus is revived by the Forge with a more powerful form, technically making him a "new" Prime.
  • Behemoth Battle: Grimlock vs the Predacon.
  • Big Damn Heroes: From the Dinobots, who join to help the ground forces as they start to get overwhelmed, with Omega Supreme more than levelling the numbers advantage for the air forces.
  • Came Back Strong: The Forge of Solus Prime not only revives Optimus but makes him more powerful than ever, including now having a jetpack.
  • The Cavalry: The trope is name-dropped when Omega Supreme and the Dinobots show up in time to save the other Autobots and Black Knights from being overrun.
  • Character Death: Rumble and Fracture are both killed during the battle, while Optimus briefly dies before being revived by the Forge of Solus Prime.
  • Commonality Connection: Cornelia offers to look out for Steve owing to their shared status as defectors.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The minute Omega Supreme and the Dinobots arrive on the battlefield, they easily mow down a huge number of the Decepticons’ forces, causing many of them to surrender or escape.
  • Dramatic Deadpan: A fairly notable example, considering Lelouch isn't normally one to engage in snark.
Megatron: Tell me, Lelouch. How exactly do you plan to dispose of me, seeing as I am now immortal?
Lelouch: How about I put you in stasis and drop you into a black hole. Let's see if that works.
  • Exact Words: A meta example by the author. The chapter title indicates a new Prime would rise, and one did. The new and improved Optimus.
  • He's Back!: Optimus swooping in after being revived by the Forge and saving Horai Island from the Damocles, before sending Megatron packing.
  • The Juggernaut: The Predacon is so powerful that even Grimlock struggles against it.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em:
    • When Fracture is killed, Airazor and Divebomb wisely surrender to the Autobots.
    • Similarly, when most of Knock Out's forces are destroyed and what's left are surrounded, he leads them in surrendering.
    • Steeljaw convinces Shin to retreat when Omega Supreme joins the battle.
    • As the Damocles is being destroyed by the revived Optimus, the remaining Decepticons flee.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": All the Decepticons panic when they realize that Omega Supreme has arrived.
  • Near-Villain Victory: The Decepticons come within seconds of obliterating everyone on Horai Island with the Damocles, when the revived Optimus swoops in to stop the attack with the Skyboom Shield.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: After gaining his upgraded body, and wielding the Star Saber and Skyboom Shield, Optimus proves capable of destroying Damocles singlehandedly.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Steeljaw and Shin flee the battlefield when Omega Supreme joins the fight, and all the other remaining Decepticons do likewise when Optimus starts destroying the Damocles.
  • Wham Episode: Fracture and Rumble are killed in the battle. Omega Supreme and the Dinobots arrive on Earth. Optimus briefly dies, but is revived by the Forge of Solus Prime in a more powerful form, before destroying the Damocles. Soundwave, Knock Out, and several other Decepticons are taken prisoner, but Megatron seems convinced that this will just help him succeed in capturing Cera and initiating Neo-Ragnarök.
  • The Worf Effect: To prove how dangerous it is, the Predacon manages to steamroll the Black Wyverns Hercules and has the upper hand in a battle against Grimlock and the Irregulars.
  • Xanatos Gambit: Megatron takes his defeat well, citing that Neo-Ragnarök is simply delayed and that Soundwave and his Minicons are among the Decepticons captured by the revolution...
