English and French Episode Title: Confusion

The towers on Lyoko keep shutting off and on, and Jérémie suspects XANA is behind the electricity outage in the school. However, it turns out XANA is fighting against Tyron. Laura goes snooping, determined to find out about Franz Hopper.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Alpha Bitch: Laura acts this way towards Aelita, as if she needs more reasons to hate her guts.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Aelita throws a lot of shade towards Laura this episode, claiming Laura has no imagination because she only thinks logically, and later on, gave her a small "The Reason You Suck" Speech after Laura attempts to make Aelita sad that her father left her for Lyoko, when in fact Franz protected Aelita, and died saving her.
  • Call-Back: This is not the first time the towers have activated and deactivated themselves, though in this case, it's completely unintentional on XANA's part.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The name Waldo D. Schaeffer shows up on Laura's tablet, the real name of Franz Hopper, which first appeared in the season 2 credits and beyond.
    • The events of Fight to the Finish are referenced, with Aelita telling the condescending Laura that her father saved her on Lyoko, not abandoned her for his work as she tried to suggest.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: Laura's behavior of being overly-nosey about Franz Hopper because Aelita wouldn't say the importance of him to the group, which leads to her investigating, and to confront Aelita thinking that Franz left her for his work, when in fact the opposite was true. Safe to say, Aelita has yet another reason to not like Laura.
  • Doomed Appointment: Jérémie contacts Tyron to warn him of XANA, at the request of Aelita. Yumi and Aelita go to the Cortex the following morning, and Tyron is so arrogant that he won't listen to them, and sets his Ninja's on them. Jérémie mercifully manages to devirtualise them before any harm is done.
  • Enemy Mine: XANA is attacking the Ninja's in the new super computer because it's interfering with his plans on Earth, and for once, only starts to attack once he discovers they're watching from the sidelines.
  • Foil: Tyron in this episode acts like a Know-Nothing Know-It-All, and refuses to listen to the reasoning of Yumi and Aelita of the dangers of XANA, simply because he's so sure he has his system under control. This nicely contrasts with Laura, who acts like an Insufferable Genius towards the Lyoko Warriors (especially towards Aelita) because of the way she thinks with cold logic, and barely considering others in her actions. Even Jérémie's own Insufferable Genius moments were not nearly as socially inept as Laura is being here.
  • Freudian Excuse: Laura attempts to use this against Aelita, and guesses that Hopper left her for his work, and Aelita's anger towards her is because her father abandoned them. Aelita, understandably, doesn't want to elaborate on it, but is forced to with some Tranquil Fury, and explains the truncated events of Fight to the Finish, and Laura immediately shuts up about it.

  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Tyron when it comes to XANA, though he admits that he doesn't believe XANA is in his super computer because he'd notice such a thing happening.
  • No Antagonist: For the majority of the episode, the conflict is XANA attacking Tyron's Ninja's, not the Lyoko Warriors attacking XANA.
