Recap / Code Geass: Paladins of Voltron, Chapter 44, "A Place To Belong"

Go To

Zarkon and Charles work to secure Earth while the remaining resistance groups mount their own struggles. Meanwhile, Lotor and his generals make their way to Earth to find C.C.

  • Adaptation Expansion: A few examples.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's mentioned that one of Peace Mark's contacts in Britannia is known as "Elphaba". Given that this is the name of Marrybell's personal Knightmare and is the name of The Wicked Witch of the West (who Marrybell is inspired by), it's possible that their contact is actually Princess Marrybell.
  • Bottle Episode: The Chapter focuses solely on events on Earth, events that the Voltron Coalition is mostly unaware of.
  • Broken Pedestal: Ashley saw Shin as a pseudo-older brother, but when he chose to ally with the Galra rather than fight back, he was furious over his betrayal, and went rouge.
  • The Cameo: During the scene at Pendragon, Carine is stopped from getting physical with the Galra by Dasko, her knight from Code Geass: Oz the Reflection.
  • Defector from Decadence: When Shin became the Grandmaster of the Order of St. Micheal, he announced his intention to ally with the Galra. Ashley in response, took the Asura Strike Force, and went rouge, refusing to work alongside the ‘purple bastards’.
  • Defiled Forever: Ezor's mom was raped by a Galra soldier sometime in the past (with Ezor being the result), which lead to her being cast out by the rest of the ultra-conservative Talpa.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Ryo attempted to capture Leila to try to use her as a bargaining chip to find a way to get off of Earth. Akito points out that not only would the Galra have most likely not honored the deal, but even if they did, they most likely would have dropped them off on a desolate planet, and even asks him how he and his group could have set up a colony once they got there.
  • Enemy Mine: The Asura Knights went rogue and are aiding the W-Zero unit because they don't want to work with the Galra.
  • Eternal Love: Lotor's interactions with C.C. indicate that he had one with her, as while C.C. no longer ages due to her code, Lotor is indicated to be Long-Lived and could conceivably spend the entirety of her existence with her.
  • Holding Out for a Hero: Wizard has to tell Orpheus that as is, they stand no chance against the Galra, and their only hope is for Voltron to return to Earth. Given the Galra's absolutely massive technological disparity with Earth, this is firmly a Justified Trope.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Luciano Bradley actually becomes terrified of Shin Hyūga Shaing, once it becomes clear to him that he doesn’t value life.
  • Know When to Fold Them: The Glinda Knights are forced to retreat when the Asura Strike Force successfully destroys a convoy thanks to Akito distracting them.
  • Monumental Damage: When the Galra attacked Paris, the first thing they did was destroy the Eiffel Tower in the opening bombardment.
  • Mirroring Factions: Compared to canon, it's hammered in here that Lotor's team are this to the Paladins, being a group of friends that are united in one goal that leads them into conflict with the Galra.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: The W-ZERO unit and the Asura Strike Force is able to destroy a Britannian-Galra convoy, but not without taking heavy casualties.
  • The Remnant: The W-ZERO unit is one of the few military units of the European Union that survived the Galra Invasion, and are still fighting back against the Galra.
  • Spanner in the Works: Akito’s arrival catches the Glinda Knights off guard while defending a convoy from the Asura Strike Force.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: It is very clear that the Britannians and the Galra can barely tolerate one-another, with several members of the royal family blatantly antagonizing their new allies (and almost getting killed for it).
  • Uncertain Doom: Ashley mentions that Grand Duke Velaines, along with Andrea Farnese, Gaudefroy du Villon, and Raymond du Saint-Gilles have gone missing, and he’s not sure if any of them are dead or alive.
  • Wham Episode: Oh boy.
    • Haggar gives the Knights of the Round custom Knightmares to create a Galra-Britannian version of Voltron.
    • Haggar also figures out that Anya is Sharing a Body with someone else.
    • Shin Hyuga is added into the Knights of the Round to replace Nonette.
    • The W-ZERO Unit, The Asura Knights, and Peace Mark have united to face the threat of the Galra (even if they are losing badly).
    • Lotor and his generals arrive on Earth and find out about the Paladins. They then get Nina to join their ranks.
