Recap / Citation Needed S 7 E 5 John Stonehouse And Dropped Trousers

Go To

The crew talk about jam wars, John Stonehouse and goose fat.

Article of Conversation: John Stonehouse.

Tropes:

  • Brass Balls: Chris mentions this when John Stonehouse left the UK and was still getting paid as he never resigned as an MP.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: When asked by Tom as to where John Stonehouse worked closely with, he asks Gary what the middle of the answers he gives ("Commonwealth" and "Empire") and says "Compire".
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Implied by Tom when he explains Stonehouse was told to drop his trousers to look for a large scar, one sported by Lord Lucan. Gary then does a Call-Back to this moments later when its revealed Stonehouse was deported as an answer as to what he didn't do on the way back to the UK.
  • Eye Take: This sudden look Gary does when he remembers a fact from his time in archives.
  • Pun:
    • Gary's pun on "preserving life" in the Jam war section.
    • Matt saying that the British government didn't do any "Czechs" on John Stonehouse after it was revealed that Stonehouse had also been a spy for Czechoslovakia's military intelligence.
  • Shout-Out: The crew imagines a literal Jam war (as in, the fruit spread you put on toast), and when Tom mimes an arrow of Jam, Matt adds that there's gonna be toast on the other side...and then realises that this gag was already done by Wallace & Gromit (The Wrong Trousers for the curious).
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Chris realises that Tom has a habit of using Telegraphs as an answer at least once a season, and Tom immediately dings behind him, while Chris does a Facepalm in shame.
