Recap / Chowder S 2 E 21 Big Ball

Go To

When the catering company works at a sporting event, Truffles complains about the nonsensical game being played, with neither side having gained a point once within eight days. While Mung insists there's no scoring allowed, Truffles decides to take matters into her own hands to end the game...which turns out to be in more ways than one.

Tropes:

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall:
    • At one point, Mung tells Chowder to get away from the screen because his giant head is blocking the view.
    • After Mung tricks Chowder into not helping in the game by telling him to literally warm the bench, he tells the audience, "Don't judge me."
    • Eventually, Chowder returns to Mung and tells him that the bench is all warmed up. We then cut to the bench, which is now on fire. Then we cut back to Chowder and Mung, and Chowder is now naked. Why? "I got hungry during the cutaway." This actually gives Mung the idea to send Chowder to consume the ball to prevent Schnitzel from scoring.
    • At one point, Truffles straight-up says that she hates the show.
  • Cutaway Gag: After Mung becomes the head coach, we see that the original head coach got a job literally coaching heads.
  • Literal Metaphor: Turns out there's a reason you cannot win the game.
  • Mid-Battle Tea Break: Spoofed. When it was 'official tea break time', while Mung and his team were drinking tea, Truffles and her team used the opportunity to score.
  • Not Hyperbole: As it turns out, Mung was being literal when he said that there's no scoring in the sport of note Big Ball and that scoring will destroy the sport itself.
  • Overly Long Name: Field Tournament Style Up and Down On the Ground Manja Flanja Blanja Banja Ishka Bibble Babble Flabble Doma Roma Floma Boma Jingle Jangle Every Angle Bricka Bracka Flacka Stacka Two Ton Rerun Free for All Big Ball.
  • Palette Swap: As Chowder notes, the Marzipan Macadamias and the Goulash United look alike, baring colors. Mung insists that the Macadamias are red with white stripes while the Goulash are white with red stripes.
  • Running Gag: Mung stating the sport's full name: Field Tournament Style Up and Down On the Ground Manja Flanja Blanja Banja Ishka Bibble Babble Flabble Doma Roma Floma Boma Jingle Jangle Every Angle Bricka Bracka Flacka Stacka Two Ton Rerun Free for All Big Ball. According to him, it's bad luck not to say the whole thing.
  • Serious Business: Mung considers note Big Ball to be this.
  • Shout-Out: A Bowser lookalike appears.

Big Ball

In the episode of the same name, it involved a game known in full as "Field Tournament Style Up-and-Down On the Ground Manja Flanja Blanja Banja Ishka Bibble Babble Flabble Doma Roma Floma Boma Jingle Jangle Every Angle Bricka Bracka Flacka Stacka Two Ton Rerun Free for All Big Ball". Mung Daal believed it brings bad luck to call the game by anything other than its full name. In the book that gives each episode's title at the beginning, everything before "Big Ball" is written in small print that turns it into Unreadably Fast Text.

How well does it match the trope?
