Go To

As an all-consuming darkness trickles into town, Sabrina grapples with feeling like the odd witch out — and makes a risky plan for a whirlwind trip.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Bait-and-Switch: When Zelda is about to announce who will be the Maiden of the coven. It seems like she’s going to choose Sabrina, but instead she chooses Prudence.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Last season, Sabrina let her Alternate Self take over leadership of Hell so that she could have the normal mortal teenagehood that she always wanted. Based on her behavior in this episode, she's finding it really boring.
  • Dark Is Evil: The Darkness is an Eldritch Abomination embodying the primordial void that existed before the Big Bang, with its true form being a pool of Ominous Obsidian Ooze.
  • Engineered Heroics: At Hilda's suggestion, Sabrina resorts to staging a fake haunting incident to trick her friends into hanging out with her again. However, Roz sees through the deception and calls her on it.
  • Gas Mask Mooks: The Darkness manifests as a group of humanoid entities wearing gas masks and mining helmets.
  • A Hell of a Time: Sabrina Morningstar is now holding regular parties in Hell, but she reveals she's a Stepford Smiler who is deeply lonely.
  • I Know What You Fear: The Darkness can see what a person fears the most and mocks them over it.
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: Sabrina Morningstar now wears a red hairband, while Sabrina Spellman wears her original black one. When they go to take on the Darkness, Spellman wears a red jacket, while Morningstar wears a black one, the reverse of their hair bands.
  • Never the Selves Shall Meet: Discussed and averted. Ambrose worries that any further contact between Sabrinas Spellman and Morningstar might cause a Time Crash. However, this doesn't happen, and by the end they're able to hang out without any issue.
  • The Night That Never Ends: The Darkness — should it win — would snuff out all light across the cosmos.
  • Sinister Minister: Faustus Blackwood — now going by "Pilgrim Lovecraft" — serves as one for the eldritch terrors, leading the Pilgrims of the Night church.
  • Shout-Out: The Pilgrims of the Night Church is led by Faustus Blackwood under the alias of "Pilgrim Lovecraft", fitting as the final season is rife with allusions to the Cthulhu Mythos.
