"Where Nobody Knows Your Name" is the fourth episode of the ninth season of Cheers.

It's the height of an Indian Summer in Boston. The news is out in Boston that Robin Colcord has a secret sweetheart, and much to Rebecca's alarm, the news says it's not her, it's that French girl Jeanne-Marie Robin was dating on the side, and now she's profiting off the news's interest in her.

Meanwhile, Carla's recusing herself, afraid of the effect the heat is having on her body making her ultra-horny.

Paul Willson, who had made seven scattered appearances over the first eight seasons of Cheers, the last in Season Six episode "A Tale of Two Cuties", appears again as Paul. He would be a semi-regular over the last three years of the show.

Tropes:

  • As Himself: Arsenio Hall, who's hosting Jeanne-Marie on his show (apparently alongside Michael Caine and MC Hammer).
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: We already knew Robin was sleeping around behind Rebecca's back, but now it turns out it wasn't just her and Jeanne-Marie, as it takes several tries for Sam to narrow it down for him.
  • Corrupt Politician: As they leave the prison tennis court, an inmate passes Sam and Robin. Sam comments he voted for the guy.
  • Delirious Misidentification: Woody, suffering from heat stroke, says "Grandma? Is that you, Grandma?", when Sam gives him some ice water.
  • Epic Fail: Sam's Sox days are long behind him, and he wasn't too good to begin with. He's got serious difficulty hitting the tennis balls in his chat with Robin, and actually sprains his arm after barely two minutes.
  • The Ghost: Jeanne-Marie, still not seen, still pissing Rebecca off even when she's no longer a rival for Robin Colcord.
  • Gossipy Hens: Mother Boyd, who Woody told about Rebecca and Robin, meaning by now all the old ladies of Hanover know as well. Get some cake into her, and she'll tell anyone anything.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: As Rebecca puts it, just thinking about the thought of Robin being with another woman makes her so mad. To demonstrate, she snaps a pool cue in half.
  • Lack of Empathy: Rebecca sends Woody out to get a newspaper during a heatwave where the temperature is reaching over a hundred degrees farenheit. Woody eventually returns on the verge of a heat stroke, badly sunburned and hallucinating. Rebecca's more concerned about the newspaper not mentioning her.
Woody: (slurred) I had three hours in the sun...
Rebecca: Oh, would somebody shut him up?
  • Noodle Incident: That time Sam almost got hit by a truck, the closest thing he's come to fame since his Sox days.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: The episode ends with Carla, already concerned about the effect the weather is having on her body, hearing that the heatwave is going to get worse, and starts slamming on the door of Sam's office. Frasier bellows to everyone that they should flee, and the bar empties en masse.
  • White-Dwarf Starlet: Sam and Rebecca have a talk about whether he misses the fame and adulation of being a minor celebrity. Sam insists he doesn't... then makes it clear he does. He really, really does.
Rebecca: Sam, Sam are you alright?
Sam: I miss it... I miss it so much!
Rebecca: (hugs him) We're both much better off without it.
