Recap / Captain Planet And The Planeteers S 5 E 2 Hollywaste

Go To

Dr. Blight tries to sabotage her sister's environmentally friendly film shoot by kidnapping her and taking her place, but her sister escapes and warns the Planeteers.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bad "Bad Acting": When Dr. Blight impersonates her sister, she has to play Bambi's part in the eco-friendly movie. Unfortunately, the evil sister has none of the good one's acting talent. Her performance is so bad that the producers decide to later have her lines looped over by another actress.
  • The Dissenter Is Always Right: The Planeteers are playing stunt doubles in a movie based on one of their adventures. The eco-friendly actress who plays Linka, Bambi Blight, is Dr. Blight's younger sister. Trouble happens as usual – and clues point to Bambi. Most of the Planeteers are quick to blame her, but Wheeler alone trusts her. In the end, Dr. Blight reveals herself as the guilty party. After a battle and Dr. Blight's arrest, Captain Planet reaffirms Bambi's innocence. Note that Wheeler was right, but not because he disapproved of guilt by association – he thought she was innocent because she was an attractive Hollywood actress.
  • Easily Forgiven: Bambi easily accepts the other Planeteers' apologies, even though they blamed her based at least partly on her family (something she couldn't control) and turned the rest of the cast against her. As she tells Linka, she's used to dealing with the fallout from her sister's unpleasantness.
  • Ironic Name: The surname Blight fits the bad doctor just fine, but Bambi is an innocent woman who's actually on the Planeteers' side and dislikes her sister's destructiveness.
  • Pun-Based Title: The title is a pun on "Hollywood".
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Bambi (Dr. Blight's sister) is the Planeteers' primary suspect in a series of incidents. Wheeler is the only one who believes her, but doesn't present any arguments other than "she's cute, so she's innocent" and "we don't get to pick our family". In the end, he does end up right; Bambi was framed by her sister. Dr. Blight then gets arrested, and the other Planeteers apologize.
  • Wardrobe Malfunction: Doctor Blight, when she squeezes into a pair of her sister's shorts in an attempt to disguise herself as her sister. As Blight sits down, she splits the shorts.
  • You Are Fat: Dr. Blight sabotages her good sister's movie shoot and plans to steal her identity, which she refers to as "walk[ing] a mile in her sister's shoes". MAL comments that she might be able to wear her sister's shoes, but she's eaten too many donuts to fit into her jeans. He's correct about the latter; the bad doctor splits her sister's shorts when she sits down while wearing them.
