Recap / Camp Camp S 3 E 11 City Survival

Go To

The counselors are heading into the big city for an important meeting. And since the alternative is leaving them alone with the Quartermaster, the campers are along for the ride! Max, eager to show his friends the wonders of the city, ditches the group and finds things aren't as he expected.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: A man approaches David, apparently a flasher- Nope, he's just handing brochures, which he keeps in his trench coat.
  • Bus Mans Holiday: Max is initially excited to get away from Camp Campbell, but as the day goes on, the only part of the trip he likes is the city park, which David remarks reminds him of Camp Campbell.
  • Character Development: Max has grown so accustomed to Camp Campbell that he realizes he actually prefers it to the city. The realization does not fill him with joy.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Nikki breathes into a bag full of dirt, since "Into Town" established that she can't function without nature.
    • Gwen's business suit from "Gwen Gets a Job" returns.
    • Neil tries to pay for a meal with "Neilbux".
    • Dirty Kevin is back, and he wants nothing to do with kids after working with the Flower Scouts.
  • Creepy Good: A nasally-voiced man in a strange van handing out candy turns out to be an actual Good Samaritan. His candy's the good stuff, too.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Out of all the activities in the city, the only part Max and his friends actually enjoy is the park. When David points out that the park is almost like being back at camp, Max is furious to realize that he's starting to prefer Camp Campbell to his old life.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Nikki managed to slip out of her child leash - and put it on Space Kid - without anyone noticing.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: A mugger attempts to rob David, until he notices the campers. Mistaking David for a single dad, he apologizes and hands him his knife.
  • Pizza Boy Special Delivery: The trio stumble upon the shooting for a movie which seems to have this scene. The film's title is called, "Pizza Sluts".
  • Spoof Aesop: David is terrified of the city at first, but gets over it after he learns all the wrong lessons: namely that knife-wielding muggers are friendly, and that strangers in vans really are giving out free candy.
Harrison: I can't wait to tell my parents!
  • Wham Line: Just when it looks like Max has finally accepted that he belongs at Camp Campbell.
Gwen: The good news is, we don't have to worry about our budget anymore"
    David: That's great!
Gwen: ...Because I've sold the camp."
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Quartermaster leaves Space Kid leashed to a fire hydrant when he goes off drinking. When he shows up again, he's holding the leash, but not the camper.
