Recap / Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command E 5 Gravitina

Go To

The second episode of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, not counting the pilot movie. Wherein an alien by the name of Gravitina, Mistress of Mass, whose head is so large it has its own gravitational pull, is paid off by Zurg to destroy Star Command and begins by going after Buzz Lightyear.

Tropes associated with this episode include:

  • Artistic License – Physics: In real life, Gravitina's head would not have its own gravitational pull.
  • Chaste Hero: Downplayed, but Gravitina doesn't manage to entice Buzz Lightyear, and XR seems to have a greater understanding of romantic attractions than Buzz has.
  • Dating Catwoman: Subverted; Buzz doesn't requite Gravitina's affections.
  • Femme Fatale: Gravitina.
  • The Ghost: Zurg doesn't appear in this episode, but is mentioned.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: Zurg is the one behind Gravitina's evil scheme.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: XR tells Booster "I'm the one who has to talk to the ship, and using one of her engines as a bomb will seriously damage our relationship!". In a later episode, Star Cruiser 42 will become self-aware and falls in love with XR.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Buzz isn't impressed by XR suggesting he sweet talks Gravitina into not destroying Star Command (and this is XR), but it seems to be a good idea.
  • Married to the Job: How Buzz views himself.
  • Right-Hand Cat: Gravitina's pet, nicknamed "Fido" by XR.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Gravitina sounds vaguely Eastern European.
  • Wingding Eyes: Little skulls appear in XR's eyes when he attempts to use the "Gorbik Death Grip" on Gravitina.
