Fiona and Jesse fear for Michael's life when he reveals his true identity to James.
- Armor-Piercing Response: Sam concedes the CIA isn't perfect, but he says they at least have to answer to other officials, whereas James makes all his own rules and could do as he pleased on a whim.Mike: What's wrong with that?
Sam: Tell that to Nate. - Berserk Button: As Sam finds out, Mike reacts very badly to being likened to those that burned him and got Nate killed.
- Freudian Slip: In their back-and-forth on the bridge, Mike insists he is nothing like those that ruined his life and got Nate killed, only to let slip how far he's gone.Mike: That is different. When I'm in—
Sam: When you're what, Mike? - Home Field Advantage: Knowing he can't beat Mike up on the bridge, Sam throws them both over the railing into the water, hoping his SEAL training will give him the edge. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
- Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Mike is on the edge of doing this and the rest of the team is determined to stop him.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Mike was already buckling when Fiona appealed to him, but Sonya threatening to shoot her made him even more unsure, not less.
- Rant Inducing Slight: When Sam says he's supposed to be working for CIA instead of James, Mike vents his frustrations over the CIA. As he says, they not only opted to work with a lunatic like Simon, but they also kicked him (Mike) aside without a second thought (and, though it goes unsaid, all because he got blamed for the things that Simon had done).
- Sadistic Choice: Sam points out to Mike that, for all his talk of how he's doing good things, he'll eventually be in the situation where someone is going to stand in the way of what he wants to do and have to decide what to do about it. Fiona opts to be that person when confronting Mike on the rooftop. Sonya threatening to shoot Fiona just adds to Mike's pressure.
- To Be Continued: Mike has to choose which side he's on, with Sonya threatening to shoot Fiona. Cut to black amid a gunshot.
- Trash the Set: Fi and Maddie torch the Westen home and flee.
- You Are What You Hate: Mike says those that burned him and those that got Nate killed ruined his life. Sam hits back with the simple fact that the Family is not unlike those same people, being folks that thought they were doing the right thing no matter who they hurt in the process.
- You Keep Telling Yourself That: In the face of Mike trying to justify his actions by saying he's protecting everyone, Sam shouts this at him.
