Tropes for this episode include...

  • Abusive Parents: Literally from the moment she was born, Bryce's mother Tammy was a skin-flint penny-punching bitch who saw her daughter as nothing more than accomplice for her cons. She saw Bryce's time in school as a "club", put her down when Bryce starting dating people and tried deflecting onto Bryce when she finally gets caught.
  • Bait the Dog: Shortly after its revealed that Bryce is running late to a charity for funding cancer research (or at least that's what she thinks), it turns out that she was actually going there to cut their funding.
  • Cruel Mercy: Bryce claims that she isn't a monster because she promises the investor that she'll tell his family where his body is after she has him killed.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Apparently Tammy has a tendency to find the address of and rob blind anyone who pisses her off even a little bit.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Apparently, Bryce was funding Hopes for Cancers because she thought that the people running it were dying of cancer.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: In her youth, Bryce thinks that Tammy stealing things that only have personal value over perceived-slights is just her being "a bitch."
  • Framing Device: After Bryce cuts Hopes for Cancers' funding to build another prison, one of them asks what had happened to Bryce to make her such a monster, leading to Bryce telling her life's story.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: The thing that finally gets Tammy caught is when a cashier calls the cops on her for calling him ugly.
  • Futureshadowing: When talking about her dreams of becoming wealthy in the corporate world, Bryce becomes enraptured by a red business suit on a mannequin in a store-window, the dress being the same that she wears in the present.
  • Hypocrite: Bryce has an investor killed when he tells her that they are cutting her funding. Shortly after, she goes to Hopes for Cancers just to tell them that she's cutting their funding For the Evulz.
  • Ignored Epiphany: After Tammy gets arrested, she tells Bryce (on the news) that she only regrets "being too nice."
  • Irony: Bryce admits that she "don't know how cancer works" right when she lights a cigarette.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty:
    • The episode begins with Bryce's shareholders cutting her off because she lied about where those funds are going to.
    • The episode ends when Bryce's mother finally being caught after her life of cons.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • The episode begins with Bryce's funding being cut because she took the money meant for three hospitals and used it to make ten prisons because the later was cheaper and "kids just suck."
    • Tammy has Bobby arrested when he confesses that he's an orphan with no home to go too.
    • When she robs Donovan's home, all Tammy steals are photographs with sentimental value.
  • Laborious Laziness: When Bryce points out that their con-artist tricks aren't very lucrative and that just getting jobs would pay way more, her mother waves it off as nothing but a con in it of itself.
  • Pun: Turns out that Hopes for Cancers isn't a charity to help people dying of cancer. It's supposed to help people who's astrological sign is Cancer with mental health and bullying for "being a crab."
  • Skewed Priorities: Tammy seems more concerned with Bryce ruining her new school uniform than the fact that she cut out her own heart and is slowly dying.
  • Take That!:
    • Bryce claims that she "learned to get by 90% of the corporate world" by giving Mr. Hornborn bed-room eyes and empty flattery.
    • Bryce says that "church girls don't need to be fucked because they already are."
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Despite everything she did as President and the fact that her marriage to Bobby Worst is public knowledge, she is still just as rich and powerful as she was before her presidency.
