  • The Bet: Hitchcock bets Jake that he'll win the Jimmy Jab Games this year. The stakes are that, if Jake wins, Hitchcock will do Jake's paperwork for a year, and if Hitchcock wins, Jake has to give Hitchcock his and Amy's new car.
  • Ceiling Cling: Jake hides inside the ceiling tiles. Unfortunately, the tiles can't hold his weight and he drops hard and injures himself, which affects his performance for the rest of the games.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: While technically not cheating, Hitchcock's doping leads to him crashing hard in the last two rounds of the games.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Debbie's purse full of epi-pens. After Jake gets badly injured in two separate ceiling-related incidents, Amy injects Jake with a literal shot of adrenaline to give him the boost that he needs in order to win the final round.
    • Also, the packages of drugs in the evidence lock-up, which get taken in the last scene.
  • Gag Penis: We naturally don't see it, but when Charles accidentally exposes himself while changing costumes, the reactions suggest that he is surprisingly hung.
Jake: He really is the Greatest Showman.
  • Growing Up Sucks: Jake only agrees to Hitchcock's bet because he's worried that his attempts to become a responsible husband and father will turn him into "a boring adult".
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Hitchcock takes a ton of Scully's medications in order to give himself an edge in the games. While it works wonders for the first few rounds, it comes back to bite him hard in the last two rounds, when the side-effects start to kick in and he can barely move. The only reason that he even comes close to being a threat to Jake in the final round is that Rosa and Holt drop out of the fourth round so he wins by default, and Jake is badly injured in two separate ceiling-related incidents.
  • I Call It "Vera": Scully calls his massive box of various prescriptions "Dorothy."
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: Terry and Amy initially had plans to go to a voluntary Administration Workshop for the NYPD. However, Amy drops out after Jake bets their new car.
  • Metaphorgotten: When advocating for himself to host the Jimmy Jab Games, Charles invokes The Greatest Showman but keeps mixing up the assigned roles.
  • Nonverbal Miscommunication: Amy, trying to help Jake, mimes grabbing a cord and pulling it towards herself. Unfortunately, out of context, the gestures she uses look rather suggestive, and he thinks she's miming pegging him.
Jake: I'm open to whatever you want to try!
  • Not So Harmless: Jake happily bets his car against Hitchcock which given his history of being an out of shape, incompetent mess doesn't seem that serious. Turns out Hitchcock is taking the contest very seriously and has figured out a way to cheat in every challenge using Scully's massive pill box.
    Jake: Oh no! He's juicing.
  • Plot Allergy: Debbie is the first to be disqualified in the first event (throwing expired cold cuts at the window) because she is allergic to turkey. She also carries a purse full of epi-pens, which is later put to good use.
  • Sequel Episode: To "The Jimmy Jab Games". Although, it's somewhat of a misnomer since the predecessor focused on the seventh Jimmy Jab Games, and this should be the eighth.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Charles bases his master of ceremonies persona on The Greatest Showman, and quotes and parodies a few of the songs (notably "This Is Me").
    • Hitchcock compares the effects of Scully's medications on him with the plot of Limitless.
    • Jake mentions Bring It On during a pep talk.
Jake: Amy, it's like Torrance from Bring it On says: "You'll never be the best until you win against the best."
Amy: Didn't they lose in the end?
Jake: Yeah, but this is different. Hitchcock isn't nearly as good as the East Compton Clovers.
    • When Amy sacrifices her spot in the elevator for Jake, he says "She Armageddoned me". However, Amy doesn't know what it means.
  • That Reminds Me of a Song: Charles uses his role as emcee to perform various musical numbers, more elaborate and lengthy than necessary.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Charles feels bad for Debbie and her lack of confidence and spends most of the episode trying to build her up and encourage her. And it works, which leads to......
  • Wham Shot: The final scene of the episode shows Debbie breaking into the Evidence Lockup and stealing a bunch of drugs and guns for an unknown reason.
  • Written-In Absence: Terry is absent after the first act, as he's gone to a leadership seminar.
