Recap / Bones S 3 E 10 The Man In The Mud

Go To

The remains of a motorcycle racer are found at a mud pool at Homestead Natural Hot Springs two weeks after being murdered following a race. Sweets' girlfriend is also introduced.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Murder: Philippa didn't mean to kill her brother, she just didn't expect him to ride the bike she sabotaged because it belonged to the murder victim.
  • Bad Liar: Bones tries to convince Booth that she is just as comfortable sitting in silence as him by saying it loudly.
    Bones: AND THAT'S VERY INTERESTING
  • Hates Small Talk: Sweets thinks Booth and Brennan should talk about other things than work sometimes. They try to discuss pie, and it makes them very uncomfortable.
  • Literal-Minded: April tells Bones that she works with tropical fish because they are just like people. Bones helpfully informs her that people can't breathe underwater.
    • Later, April asks if it's possible for her to talk to Brennan woman to woman. Brennan replies that that is indeed possible, seeing as they are both women.
  • Metaphorgotten: April refers to herself as a female fish with a vibrant blue hue, but adds that she's not really blue, she's more pink.
  • Metaphorically True: April tells Sweets he has no business criticizing her belief that fish have souls, since he kills thousands of people every night. Sweets clarifies to the FBI Agents listening that it's only in a video game.
  • Shout-Out: A forensic worker thinks crowbar murders are The Three Stooges-related.
  • Too Much Information: When a ranger asks what Bones means by needing to macerate the bones, Booth tries to warn him about this, but she still tells him it means to either boil the flesh off them or have beetles eat it.
  • You Just Told Me: Booth gets Philippa to admit she knew about the mudbole by saying he knows for a fact that she took an ex-boyfriend there three years ago. She corrects him that it was in fact him who took her there.
