Recap / Bluey The Claw

Go To

The Heelers are at a restaurant, and the girls want to use the claw machine. Bingo asks Bandit for money, and he gives it to her once she says please. The girls try to get a box of "chocolate doo-dads" from the claw machine, but they fail, and then the family drives home.

The girls are in a sulk, so Chilli says she knows how to cheer them up and tells them to retrieve some stuffed toys and a chopstick. They do, and she pretends to be a claw machine, using the chopstick as a lever. Despite both sisters winning, and Bingo being cheered up, this doesn't cheer Bluey up as she feels it's "not the same".

Bandit then says Chilli did it wrong and then pretends to be a claw machine himself. He demands the girls do a chore to earn a real coin to use instead of pretending to hand him a coin, so Chilli has them make the parents' bed. They then have him play as a claw machine, but he makes them lose.

While the girls do more chores to get money, Bandit says that his plan is great since the girls are learning a lesson and cleaning the house. Chilli, however, replies that neither is happening (since Bluey is dusting incompetently and Bingo is giving the houseplant too much water). Bandit makes the girls lose again, but then he makes them win.

When the girls want to play for a fourth time, Chilli wants to change games, but Bandit promises the girls bottomless ice cream after dinner if they win the fourth round. Chilli is certain he'll just make them lose again, but the girls insist, so Bandit lets them swap Bingo's dolphin toy for a coin. He does make them lose, so the girls tickle him until he forks over the ice cream.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Despite Bandit losing the game he played with his daughters, being tickled by them, and having to fork over the ice cream, he still calls them awesome at the end.
  • Aesop Enforcer: Bandit has the girls lose at the fake claw machine to teach them that you can't always win.
  • Agony of the Feet: Bandit stubs his toe at one point.
  • Broken Aesop: Bandit says he's teaching the girls a valuable lesson about money by making their pretend claw game more realistic by demanding the girls get real coins from doing housework. When he puts in a block that would grant them as much ice cream as they want, his claw machine conveniently breaks down. He attempts to explain to the girls that this is how the world works, only to be interrupted by them tickling him. As the girls chow down on their well-deserved ice cream, Chilli asks if they learned anything today, to which they both say, "nope!".
  • Buffy Speak: Bingo calls the claw machine a "claw thing".
  • Cutting the Knot: After the claw shuts down, Bluey and Bingo tickle him to get the ice cream prize and Bingo’s stuffed animal.
  • Death Glare: Bluey glares at Bandit for dropping the stuffed dolphin.
  • Furry Reminder:
    • Bingo barks like an excited puppy when she’s trying to tell Bandit about the claw machine.
    • The girls wag their tails several times.
  • Hard Truth Aesop: Kids won't always learn the life lessons you try to teach them. Sometimes, it'll even fly right over their heads.
  • Lost Food Grievance: The Heeler girls get into a sulky mood when they fail to get some chocolate.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: Discussed. Bandit tries to cheer his daughters up by saying that claw machines wouldn't be exciting if you always won. Bluey, however, thinks it would be.
  • Race-Name Basis: When the Heeler girls tickle Bandit, he addresses them as "canines".
  • Snarky Inanimate Object: Parodied — Bandit teases the girls while pretending to be a claw machine.
  • Stealth Insult: Under the alias of claw machine, Bandit voices that without children, his life is free and easy.
  • Tickle Torture: Downplayed. The girls tickle Bandit to get him to give them ice cream.
