Recap / Bluey Teasing

Go To

Bluey, Bingo and Mum get into a debate with Dad about the definition of teasing. As they recall all the times he's been a big teaser, Dad argues that he was only playing.

Tropes:

  • Aerith and Bob: A flashback shows Bandit messing with Bingo and Bluey by calling them Sharralanda and Dennis.
  • Bait-and-Switch: ...and that's that. Too bad as Bandit explains what it is, the kids cheekily turn his "volume knob" down to zero.
    • That being said, it's clear that it's definitely not playing if you're being mean. Bandit gets on to Bluey at the start for playing keep away with Bingo's toothbrush and the only example Bandit directly apologizes for is when he pretends he's going to eat Bingo's ice block.
  • …But He Sounds Handsome: In the flashback, while Bandit is pretending to be Chilli, he tells Bingo he isn't there, all the while complimenting himself. Bingo, unimpressed, sees right through it.
Bandit: (pretending to be Chili) Dad's not here, which is a shame, 'cause he's such a handsome fellow, with big, strong muscles!
  • Deadpan Snarker: It's kid-friendly and playful, but Bandit runs on pure snark, and this episode is no exception. It's entirely devoted to this trope, and points out that Bluey and Bingo are quite capable of matching that snarkiness — and that Bandit knows when to apologize after going too far.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Bandit does enjoy joking around with his daughters, but he does know when he's gone too far. This is shown in the flashback where Bingo ask Bandit to open up the ice block she got at the store, and Bandit decides to give the ice block a few licks and act like Bingo gave it to him. But when he sees her shocked expression, Bandit realizes that he's being mean and he apologizes and returns the ice block.
  • The Gadfly: Bandit's wife and children argue that this trope is why they think he teases all the time. Such as when he plays "Password" or "Name Change", blames Bluey for a fart, or pretends to be Chili.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Played for laughs in the last three instances that Bandit teases his daughters. His giving them new names gives them leeway to change his name, his pretending to be Chili to flatter himself gives the girls an opportunity to doll him up like a mom, and him calling them monkeys backfire spectacularly when the car trip turns into a chaos-fest as his daughters see it as an invitation to hoot like actual monkeys.
Chili: (unamused) Well this got out of hand.
  • Once More, with Clarity:
    • Most of the flashbacks show Bandit messing around with his kids, building their case that he teases them. However, he later points out that in those same flashbacks, sometimes the kids mess with him as well.
    • The first flashback shows Bandit teasing Bingo pretending to mistakenly her ice block, shocking her into thinking he really is going to eat it. A second flashback shows that Bandit recognized it was a bit mean of him to pull a joke like that, and apologizes for it. What's more, Bingo not only forgives Bandit with no hard feelings, but playfully uses the nickname she and Bluey thought up for him.
