Recap / Blue's Clues S1 E2 "What Time is it for Blue?"

Go To

Original airdate: 9/15/1996

What time is it now? We play Blue's Clues to figure it out. On the way, we help our friend Tickety put herself back together, pattern clothes in Steve's closet, and help the Lion Prince find and identify his jungle friends visually and through their sounds.

What Time Is It For Blue? contains examples of:

  • Amusing Injuries: Tickety Tock explodes and loses all of her parts after Steve startles her.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • After Steve draws the first clue (a blanket), he is holding the notebook with the front cover attached to the back cover. Past this episode, the front cover will always lay on the other side of Steve's hand. To clear up confusion, an example is shown comparing the way the notebook is held to the episode "Anatomy."

    • Much like the previous episode "Snack Time," Mailbox doesn't have a conversation with Steve about the topic of the episode, he just mentions that the mail's here. Starting with the next episode "Mailbox's Birthday," Mailbox becomes a fully-fledged character.
    • When Steve is watching the video in the letter during Mail Time, he sits in the Thinking Chair with his legs crossed, while his legs would be flat on the floor in the future.
  • Easily Forgiven: After Steve accidentally causes Tickety Tock to explode, the latter forgives Steve.
  • Go-to-Sleep Ending: Blue, Tickety Tock, and the jungle animals fall asleep while Steve reads the book "A Puppy's Day." However, Blue wakes up in time to wave goodbye to the viewers.
  • Oh, Crap!: Steve, after Tickety Tock loses her parts from him startling her.
  • Shout-Out:
    • After Steve points out he's in the jungle, he follows up with saying "the mighty jungle," which is a reference to the lyrics of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."
    • The Lion Prince is most likely a reference to the Lion King.
