How many birthdays can a puppy have?

Original air date: 2/7/2020 (produced in 2019)

We arrived at Blue's Clues house once again, but today is different, it's our favorite puppy’s birthday. Upon our entrance Josh informs us that we arrived a little early, and asks if we can help him with the party, calling Blue to announce to us that she is the birthday girl. At that moment Josh states that he still has a lot to do, and remembers that he hasn't bought a gift yet. When he asks her what she wants, she starts a birthday game of Blue's Clues.

After cleaning pawprint with his Party horn, he is greeted by an explosion of confetti from inside Sidetable Drawer and receives a notebook with a gift bow. Upon finishing "To play Blue's Clues" song he and Blue smell cupcakes coming from the kitchen and Mrs. Pepper notices that one of them is missing sprinkles, with Josh quickly helping her and then going to check the decorations outside. Outside he finds one of the invitations to Blue's party (which he highlights as being made by her with a little bit of his help) and then viewers find the first clue: The color green.

While observing the table a few seconds later, Josh asks Mrs Pepper to keep an eye on Blue while he searches for clues. In the middle of his search, a familiar voice is heard from the living room's skidoo frame, Joe, who is in Present Store, invites Josh to go to his store to buy something for Blue's birthday. While Josh looks for clues, he tells us to look for a gift that Blue would like and out of so many stuffed toys he chooses a stuffie of a character that we would still hear about later, Rainbow Puppy, which was the viewer's gift for Blue, while he would still need to find his gift which would be the answers to Blue's clues. No more than a few seconds in the pet area of the Present Store we found our second clue, a tank, which Josh mistakes for a “Cluefish” and which catches Joe’s attention, who almost panics when he doesn’t find it. The second clue was a Tank.

Two clues were found, so Josh goes to buy the viewer's gift for Blue, on the way meeting the friendly turtle, Turquoise, and before returning home we hear Joe's Character Catchphrase "Every day is a gift" for the first time. Finally being home Josh runs excitedly to the party, but before he can get outside a familiar song is heard, meaning it's mailtime already. Mailbox has come with a special gift for the birthday girl, a birthday letter, and upon opening his small door Josh is greeted by a second explosion of confetti, and feels embarrassed for continuing to fall for it. In the letter, several real-life celebrities wish Blue a happy birthday, which Josh considers sweet, before announcing that it's time to open presents.

In the gifts Blue received a bubble blower from Slippery, a clock puzzle from Tickety Tock and finally the viewer's Rainbow Puppy stuffie, all of which Blue adores. In the middle of the mess Blue "accidentally" pushes over some gifts revealing our third clue: A shell

Third clue was found, meaning is time to sit in our Thinking Chair. Josh first thinks that the answer could be the color green in a tank that uses a shell as a hat, but even he can see this is a ridiculous idea, finally understanding that Blue want a turtle for her birthday (In this case Turquoise, the tutle we saw earlier).

Upon figuring out Blue's clues, Josh asks Blue to return to the party while he calls Joe to order her gift. Back at the party, a peculiar gift box approaches everyone, with the surprise inside being Joe himself who hid inside it, and carrying with him the second Turquoise turtle, which Blue adores, in a heartwarming moment for Josh, like Steve once did declares to Blue that he loves her and wishes her a happy birthday. Finished the present time, Blue and her friends run to sing the happy birthday song (without Joe, who for some reason decided to jump while still inside the gift box). After singing the happy birthday song for Blue, everyone together with Blue comes together to blow out the candles. Then once again it's time for so long, Josh and Joe together sing one more song and we say goodbye to our friends once again.

Tropes:

  • Ageless Birthday Episode: Once again we see Blue celebrating a birthday, but have no idea how old she is supposed to be.
  • Birthday Episode: This episode marks Blue's second anniversary on screen (third if you count Joe’s era promotional art).
  • Early-Bird Cameo: We have the first mention of Rainbow Puppy (a character that would be important from the third season onwards) in this episode, through a plushie that the viewer gives to Blue as a gift.
  • Fleeting Demographic Rule: This episode is the modern version of the episode “Blue's Birthday” but with the addition of Josh, Joe and Cinnamon who had not yet been introduced in the original series.
  • Foreshadowing: Quickly you might miss it, but Joe almost panics when he doesn't realize where the second clue is, what he doesn't do in the original series. In later seasons and the movie, it is revealed that the stress of working alone at the Present Store was taking a toll on Joe and changing some traits of his personality.
  • Hollywood Giftwrap: Present Store (as well as Joe) has this type of wrap as it's theme. Joe even arrives at the party inside such a present box.
  • Internal Homage: This episode is a homage to the episode “Blue's Big Birthday” .
  • Negative Continuity: People may notice that Blue received turquoise a second time in this episode, this later becomes Subverted when it is revealed that the original Turquoise (which is darker) now lives in Steve's office.
  • Special Guest: Just like in the original episode, Blue is given a birthday card that consists of a montage of various celebrities wishing her a happy birthday. These include Samantha Bee, Rachel Dratch, gymnast Laurie Hernandez, Alexa Vega and her husband Carlos, Kal Penn, and Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy.
