Recap / Big Hero 6 The Series S 3 E 02 Mayor For A Day

Go To

The teams finds themselves stuck at the beck and call of Richardson Mole after he becomes Mayor of San Fransokyo for a day.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Art Shift: Fred's Imagine Spot at the start of the episode shifts to the same chibi style as Karmi's fanfiction.
  • Brick Joke: Fred was going to mandate a kaiju-based transportation system when made mayor. The final scene shows that he managed to do so in his brief rule.
  • Crying Wolf: Richardson's abuse of the helpline causes Fred to snap and ignore his call when he's in the middle of being kidnapped by Supersonic Stu.
  • Frivolous Summoning: Richardson begins to abuse the Big Hero 6 emergency helpline to summon them for autographs, playing with action figures, moving a mini-fridge, appearing on his podcast, and giving him a massage.
  • Funny Background Event: When getting Richardson's "real emergency" call, Wasabi's card house collapses, to his dismay. Cue him throwing his head back in irritation.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Hiro and Wasabi untie the laces on the rollerskate go-kart and swing them into the wheels, sending the entire thing tumbling over.
  • Karma Houdini: Richardson uses his position as temporary mayor to pardon himself for his own crimes.
  • Manchild: Supersonic Stu spends most of the episode running around in a pair of onesie pajamas knitted by Sue, and wistfully reminisces about driving around the giant rollerskate go-kart she gave him when he turned 30.
  • Mayor Pain: Richardson quickly begins to abuse the emergency helpline Fred set up for increasingly pointless reasons, then teams up with the villains for petty revenge after Big Hero 6 justifiably ignores him once.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The team after thinking Richardson was captured by the Supersonics.
  • The Pardon: Upon being exposed, Richardson uses his position as temporary mayor to pardon himself.
  • Pop the Tires: Wasabi tries to stop Richardson's giant roller skate by slashing the tires. Unfortunately, it has retractable spare tires.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike:
    • Fred explains that the Mayor for a Day position goes to whoever gives the most "ginormous" donation, with Baymax saying that the word isn't in his database; Minimax chimes in, saying that the correct word is "gimongous" (also not on Baymax's database). When the announcement is made, the presenter actually uses "gimongous" to describe the donation given.
    • Richardson's first mandate as mayor is to "outlaw Fredrickson's face." Fred is angry... because he was going to outlaw Richardson's face.
  • Tempting Fate: When the heroes capture Richardson, he says he'll deny everything and asks the heroes who the people would believe. He then sees there are several witnesses and at least one of them is a reporter.
