Go To

Recap of Episode 5 of Asura's Wrath.

Wyzen transforms several times, eventually tapping into the Brahmastra’s mantra reactor and becoming a titanic being. As he is about to be crushed under one of Wyzen’s fingers, Asura recalls his entire past. The subsequent release of wrath is so great that it obliterates Wyzen and shatters Asura’s arms, knocking him unconscious.

Tropes:

  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Gongen Wyzen attacks Asura with a Finger Poke of Doom (the finger the size of a small continent) and Asura is able to keep it from crushing him with his six-arms. He then punches it dozens of times (destroying all of his arms in the process) until the sheer force of the punches obliterates Wyzen. To put this in perspective, Asura is the size of a moderately tall human male, while Gongen Wyzen is as big as the planet. And Asura is relying on his own personal reserves of Wrath mantra while Wyzen is juiced up on 12,000 years worth of mantra collected by the Seven Deities to have obtained this form.
  • Finger Poke of Doom: Gongen Wyzen is so massive, his only attack in this form is that he presses his index finger into where Asura is, the tip of his finger the size of several countries.
  • Make My Monster Grow: After Asura sends him into orbit, Vajra Wyzen activates his mantra reactor to tap into the Seven Deities' massive pool of mantra and become Gongen Wyzen. While Vajra Wyzen was the size of a small mountain, Gongen Wyzen is the size of the planet.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Downplayed. Wyzen's Vajra form is the size of a small mountain and even then Asura is still able to kick his ass. Asura certainly has muscles, but it's his demigod physiology that makes this in any way possible.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: As Vajra Wyzen is literally bashing Asura into the ground, the player can choose to end it prematurely with Asura getting up, catching his fist and flinging him across the valley.
  • Square-Cube Law: Despite his Vajra form being a fat giant made of stone (or at least he looks like stone), he only somewhat slower than the smaller but more nimble Asura.
  • Super Mode: Asura takes on his Six-Armed Form after Wyzen beats him into the ground, his taunting over Mithra causing him to channel enough Wrath mantra to do this.
  • A Twinkle in the Sky: Asura was able to punch Wyzen so hard, he sends him straight into orbit.

Sun Wukong [Asura's Wrath]

One famous scene in Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (where Buddha becomes the size of a planet and crushes Sun Wukong with his Palm) is direct shout to Asura's Wrath, right down to nearly identical camera angles and character actions, to the point of getting quite a plagiarism controversy when it first premiered in China.

How well does it match the trope?
