Recap of Ash vs. Evil Dead
Season 3, Episode 3:
Apparently Dead
- Ruby: And they say there's no such thing as second chances.
It's a sad day for both Ash and Brandy as Candace's funeral service is being held at the church. Brandy is uneasy with Ash being around and says that Mrs. Prevett has offered her to be put up for adoption until she graduates, but she still decides to stay with him. The mortician says that the two can say their goodbyes to Candace and that her head has been sewn back onto the body, which makes Ash worried, so he arms himself with a fork before going in. He checks if she has been revived and upon feeling she's not gives his eulogy, but as he turns around, she disappears from the coffin. As he goes into to investigate, she grabs him and drags him inside. Ash ends up locked in the coffin with revived Candace who violates him with her finger. She tries to force herself on him, bites on his prosthetic arm which rips off her jaw, and Ash uses her photo to sever her head once again. As he tries to get out of the coffin, the lid hits him on the head and knocks him out.
The service starts without Ash, and Brandy goes to the coffin to read her eulogy while the coffin lid opens and Ash emerges from it along with Candace's severed head on his crotch, much to everyone's horror. Brandy storms off in embarrassment, while Mrs. Prevett tries to express her condolences. Ash recognizes her as Ruby, insulting her in front of his daughter and trying to tell everyone she's a demon. This breaks the girl's patience, and she decides to move out, with Ruby giving him a veiled threat.
Pablo, Kelly and Dalton arrive at the church, where Ash explains that Ruby is back. Pablo again sees the nude woman sent by Brujo, who says that his uncle sent a message to find the Kandarian dagger at the Knowby cabin ruins. Ash sends the three on their way, while he stays behind to deal with Brandy. Ruby drops Brandy off at the house and heads to a cemetery where she performs a ritual over Brock Williams's grave, reviving him. He comes back to his house and regenerates the missing flesh in the shower. Ash comes home to see Brandy talking to her grandfather and watching Ash's commercial. He confronts his revived father and tells Brandy he's a Deadite, but she refuses to listen.
In the forest, Kelly digs up the dagger, but the evil force finds them and drags Dalton away, impaling him on a tree branch. Kelly finds the dying knight who says it was Pablo who did this. He asks her to give him the dagger, then starts showing, revealing that he's been possessed. Pablo runs him over with the truck, but once Kelly looks into the cabin, he's disappeared.
Ash interrogates Brock, who says that Ruby's asked him to look over Brandy and he's going to make sure she'll hate her father even more. As he lunges at Ash, a can of beans flies out of his hand and hits Brandy in the head, knocking her out. He tries to burn Ash's face on a stove, but his son turns the tables and does it to him. Ash gets his chainsaw and impales Brock on it just as Brandy wakes up and witnesses the bloodbath, becoming convinced her father has gone insane and leaving.
Tropes:
- Ass Shove: Candace violates Ash by shoving her finger up his butt, which apparently only excites him.
- Back from the Dead: Ruby brings Brock back from the grave as her pawn to torment Ash and drive a bigger wedge between him and Brandy.
- Blood-Splattered Innocents: Brandy gets caked in Brock's blood as Ash runs him through with the chainsaw.
- Butt-Monkey: During the fight between Ash and Brock, Brandy keeps getting hit in the head and stays lying down on the floor.
- Car Fu: Pablo once again uses a truck as his weapon, running over Deadite Dalton.Pablo: Nobody fucks with the Ghost Beaters!
- Fork Fencing: Ash tries to protect himself from Deadite Candace with a fork.
- The "Fun" in "Funeral": Ash's attempts to stop Candace from reviving lead to a completely botched funeral service.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Dalton meets his end by being impaled on a tree branch by the Kandarian Demon.
- Jawbreaker: Ash breaks off Deadite Candace's jaw with his artificial hand while fighting her.
- Oh, Crap!: Ash quickly becomes scared when the mortician tells him he's reattached Candace's head.
- Tongue Trauma: Ash incidentally rips off deadite Candace's tongue after she shoves it through her own photo.
