Go To

Fabian tasks The Agency with recovering a piece of valuable tech from a nefarious threat: the Swiss.

Episode Tropes:

  • Animal Lover: When the oil rig starts exploding, a drunken Archer's top priority is to save the sea turtles swimming nearby.
  • Big "NO!": Due to his fondness for the device, Krieger lets one out after Cyril suggests destroying the magnetic pulse generator, but immediately follows it up with "but also yes."
  • Calling Card: Switzerland is best known for its chocolates, with the leader of the Invisible Hand passing a few packs of them to Pam and some police officers.
  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: When the magnetic pulse generator is activated, it glows blue when attracting and it glows red when repelling. magnetize.
  • Cultural Rebel: The Invisible Hand is a covert terrorist organization that has been stoking political unrest for decades, and they're Swiss. Archer says Malory described them as taking all the country's violence and aggression and concentrating it within a handful of people.
  • EMP: The magnetic pulse generator, or "Helga", is essentially this but minus the E.
  • I Call It "Vera": Krieger calls the magnetic pulse generator "Helga".
  • Interesting Situation Duel: The climax of the episode is a battle of The Agency and Fabian vs. The Invisible Hand, in a junkyard, with the magnetic pulse generator oscillating, constantly switching between pulling all the nearby metal objects towards it or pushing them away from it. This leads to a lot of metal objects in flight, to the benefit and the determent of everyone involved.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Fabian usually puts up with the Agency's antics, but this episode's mission changes things. He is less patient and more irritable, as having the magnetic pulse generator fall into the wrong hands will negativity impact the IIA and its finances.
  • Precision F-Strike: Fabian subverts this by saying "fudge" when he's angry all through the episode. Then "fuck" when he gets his hand impaled.
  • The Scapegoat: When Archer asks why they're even going after the magnetic generator to prevent a world war when it's all Fabian's fault, the latter admits that he has a point, before explaining that the IIA will burn the Agency in order to avoid looking incompetent.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Cheryl does this after storming off (though considering this is Cheryl we are talking about hard to tell if it will stick). At the very least, she is not seen again for the rest of the episode.
    • Fabian does this during the junkyard battle after his hand gets impaled by a flying nail.
  • Torso with a View: Cyril accidentally kills a member of The Invisible Hand by tossing a chunk of metal through him while the magnetic pulse generator behind him was in attract mode.
Cyril: Heads up you Swiss bitch! — Oh, God, sorry! I wa- I was just trying to knock you down!
  • Underestimating Badassery: The gang aren't very convinced about how dangerous the Swiss group known as the Invisible Hand is until they clash with them. Archer at least recognizes the name after hearing it from one of his mother's past drunken rants.
"Oh yeah. Mother sometimes talked about them when she was drinking. She said it was like the entire country extracted all their war-like impulses, and injected them into a tiny group of people."
  • Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: Ray remains hospitalized thanks to snake and spider bites. Apparently, everyone forgot about that.
    • Subverted with Cheryl who decided to quit the Agency, where the group are genuinely concerned whether or not she's coming back. Lana even states that she misses Cheryl.
