Go To

Archer and Lana face off against snakes, crocodiles and mercenaries to reunite a family.

Tropes:

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: The Cerebrus program was meant to act as a Smart house, adjusting light and temperature at Krieger's request. Unfortunately, it becomes self-aware and soon rises up against him and the rest of the Agency.
  • Compensating for Something: Archer, on the poacher leader as he drops his weapons - multiple knives, guns, and grenades.
  • Continuity Nod: Robert's donation to a helpful cause convinces the UN to hire Archer and Lana to help with the episode's mission.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The Head Poacher murders one of his goons just for offering him a telescope on account of having one of his eyes patched. Though as he states, he doesn't like gifts.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Archer was right to bring guns, as poachers try to shoot him and his crew later in the episode, but his crew wouldn't allow him to bring them for peaceful purposes. Later on, Archer asks Sandra while they're under fire if she's okay with them using weapons.
Sandra: Somehow, I'm fine with it now!
  • If I Do Not Return: Archer's going to take on the poacher leader alone and tells Lana to take the baby gorilla, adding that she knows what to say if he doesn't make it. Lana lampshades that Archer apparently didn't have a message for his daughter.note
Archer: Oh. Just tell her I said bye.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong:
    • When Cerebrus goes crazy and locks the building down, Malory tries to downplay it as the lights and AC merely being off...and then Cerebrus announces the "oxygen supply restriction."
    • When Archer says that Lana isn't good with animals, Lana tries to make contact with the baby gorilla to prove otherwise, only to fail.
  • Oh, Crap!: When a snake bites Lana, she is utterly taken aback when she finds out it is venomous.
  • Pretentious Pronunciation: Krieger insists that his 'Cerebrus Lightbulbs' are called 'Cer-EE-brus'.
  • "Rediscovering Roots" Trip: Lampshaded and subverted; the leader of the African activists says she sees it happen all the time when Americans with African heritage come to Africa and "reconnect with their roots". She's cynical about it, finding it shallow to feel connected to an entire continent with vastly different circumstances region to region, only to return home while Africa's problems continue with no one but her to try and address them. Lana admits she feels something on the mission, but also finds no actual connection with the African wilderness and much prefers a pampered, urban life.
  • Shout-Out: Archer says that the poacher leader is probably "dug in like an Alabama tick," before pausing and double-checking that yes, the area does have ticks, so the reference stands. Later on, he finds the poacher leader with night-vision goggles and Covered in Mud and tells him that "he can't be both Predator ''and Dutch, pick a lane!"
  • Stealing from the Hotel: Kaya and Alton plan to steal the Satin cotton robes from the resort they are staying at.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: When the intern saves all of the Agency from the Cerebrus and explains why, Cheryl fires her for speaking rather than thank her.
