Recap / Aqua Teen Hunger Force S 4 E 1 Dirtfoot

Go To

Inspired by a pornographic detective show, Master Shake digs an “Old Abandoned Well” in the front yard and purposely falls down it in an effort to attract women and money, meeting the legendary Dirtfoot in the process.

"Dirtfoot" contains examples of:

  • Brick Joke: The episode starts with Shake watching the porno “Bruno Sardine: Private Inbreastigator,” where womens’ clothes magically disappear whenever they see the titular detective get injured. At the very end Shake bisects himself with a sword, at which point a nearby woman has her clothes vanish in the same fashion.
  • Driven to Suicide: In one final, desperate bid to prove he’s straight and attain female sympathy, Shake bisects himself with a sword. Sure enough the old woman witnessing the act is immediately rendered topless.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Frylock gives Shake a going-away gift: that Shake has learned a lesson about tolerance and is a better person for it. It’s a going-away gift because Frylock and Meatwad are kicking him out of the house now that everyone thinks he’s gay.
    • When Shake’s act of self-mutilation renders the old lady topless, Frylock quickly hides Meatwad and tells him not to look. Because Frylock is going to look.
  • Limited Animation: Played for laughs, rather than animate characters undressing they just have their clothes just vanish.
“Oh no, Bruno. My top magically came off!”
  • Mistaken for Gay: Shake initially takes Dirtfoot’s homosexuality in stride until he realizes that people will think he’s gay by extension. This leads him to abandon the well idea and instead smash his hand in a mailbox while the media is interviewing Carl. Alas instead of sexy women coming to his rescue, Dirtfoot does, with the media spinning them as gay lovers much to Shake’s chagrin.
“You don't have to be gay to like Dirtfoot, you just have to be gay to be Dirtfoot. Or, to be Dirtfoot, you have to be gay. I guess what we're all saying here at Channel 5 is that Dirtfoot is gay. And so is that milkshake.”
  • Queer People Are Funny: Shake finds it absolutely hilarious that Dirtfoot is gay and bullies him non-stop about it. At least until he realizes how he’ll look if people find out he’s rooming with a gay guy.
“Woooooaahhh looks like someone’s a little light in the loafazzzz! Hey, don't look at me, I don't have the same problem with you people that Jesus does!”
  • Roommate Drama: It turns out that at the bottom of the well there’s an entire apartment, where Shake is rooming with Dirtfoot. Dirtfoot is kind of an asshole and leaves his dirty socks and dishes lying around, and beats up Shake whenever he complains (which is often). He’s also gay and (by Shake’s account) an Abhorrent Admirer which makes Shake uncomfortable and results in him being Mistaken for Gay. Dirtfoot, as a genuinely legendary creature, also throws a wrench in Shake’s plan to get media attention since his mere existence overshadows anything Shake can do.
  • Running Over the Plot: Dirtfoot is killed when an old lady runs over him… with her swords.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Shake’s plot is to get stuck in a well in order to get sympathy sex out of women. Since the well inexplicably has a fully furnished apartment at the bottom, this doesn’t actually require any sacrifice from him, aside from having to put up with a new roommate. Later on he kills himself, which does have the desired effect of undressing nearby women, but of course he’s dead by that point.
