Recap / American Housewife S 4 E 10 The Bromance Before Christmas

Go To

Katie is thrilled to learn that her parents will not be joining them for Christmas because her father is recovering from an injury and her mother is (reluctantly) tending to him, so she'll finally be able to make a Bavarian meat tree with Taylor, like she used to with her grandmother (Kathryn did not approve). But the Ottos won't be alone for Christmas - Katie wants to surprise Greg by inviting his half-brother (also named Greg) from his father's secret double life in England. Greg, who has cut ties with his parents in the wake of that revelation, is understandably displeased. To get even, he invites Kathryn to show up for Christmas after all, throwing Katie's Christmas plans into chaos. Meanwhile, as Oliver and Anna-Kat are fighting over the presents their parents have hidden, they accidentally break one of their mother's heirloom Christmas plates, but Oliver insists he can fix it.

First appearance of Ed Weeks as British Greg.

Tropes:

  • Christmas Episode: The fourth in an annual tradition for the show.
  • Even the Rats Won't Touch It: The Bavarian meat tree is so revolting even Luther won't eat it.
  • The Ghost: Katie's father Marty is mentioned but unseen, and does not accompany Kathryn to their daughter's home for Christmas.
  • I Am Very British: British Greg is just shy of wearing a bowler hat and carrying a cane.
  • Ironic Echo Cut: When Greg asks how Katie why she would invite British Greg to Westport, Katie says Doris and Angela both thought it was a good idea. Cut to Doris and Angela both telling Katie it would be a terrible idea.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Greg's secret half-brother from England.
  • Mandatory Line: Doris and Angela literally have one line each in this episode (spoken over each other).
