Just an average day of trying to hide a troll from your parents.

  • Breather Episode: The stakes are considerably lower for this installment.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • When Stan first shows up at Jake’s house, he explains that if he out in the sunlight, his hair will burn, and "really bad things will happen".
    • There’s quite a bit that leads up to The Reveal.
      • Stan the Troll mentions to Jake that he has a date that night, and then Aunt Patchouli says the same thing later on.
      • This exchange between Aunt Patchouli, Susan and Jonathan while looking through an old photo album.
Susan: Oh, is that him? The old friend from college?
Aunt Patchouli: Yeah, that’s my Stanley.
Jonathan: Good golly! And you made fun of my hair!
  • Interspecies Romance: Jake’s Aunt Patchouli (a human) and Stan Lipowski (a troll).
  • Mundane Utility: Jake uses his dragon tail to reach to the door's peephole and his dragon mouth to breath fire on the Troll's hair clippings in the sink (unsuccessfully).
  • No Antagonist: The episode centers on the foibles of Jake handling unexpected visitors and the surprise of the sentient hairballs.
  • Shout-Out: The little monster hairballs created from Stan’s burnt hair look a lot like Critters.

Strange, usually the Talking Animal angle gets at least some sort of reaction.

  • Exact Words: This exchange when Jake and Lao Shi are sparring at the beginning.
Lao Shi: Don’t get cocky. Stay focused. Watch the tail!
Jake: Oh, I’m watchin’ the tail, ‘cause my tail never fails! (Preening) I’m pretty, I am pretty~!
Lao Shi: (smirking) Not your tail, mine.
  • My Hovercraft Is Full of Eels: Fu Dog attempts to speak canine to the van full of other dogs. The sentence he attempts does not go over well.
  • Noodle Incident: The last time Fu tried to go on a walk by himself, it somehow ended with him standing next to a broken fire hydrant, holding a toilet plunger, wearing a live boa constrictor on his shoulders and surrounded by cops.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: It’s revealed that Fu Dog invented that old trick. And yet even he can’t resist.
Fu Dog: Now I wish I never invented that trick. It’s just too good!
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight:
    • Fu reveals he can talk to the dog catcher in hopes that she'll be impressed enough not to hurt him. Unfortunately, she's too wound up to really care.
    • Earlier in the episode, Fu gets on the train and gleefully says out loud that he lost her, unaware of the other passengers on the train. After the initial shock, they go back to reading their newspapers.
