Recap / American Dad! S8E17 "Ricky Spanish"

Go To

Roger inadvertently brings back his most loathsome persona ever: Ricky Spanish (Ricky Spanish). Steve tries to prove he can be redeemed. Meanwhile, Stan and Francine meet the African boy they had sponsored years earlier.

Tropes:

  • Comically Missing the Point: Roger tells Daniel to say "good night, Steve," with the obvious implication he wants Steve knocked out. Daniel instead earnestly wishes Steve a good night, and when he still doesn't get it, he actually kisses Steve on the forehead.
  • Downer Ending: Roger manipulates Steve into helping Ricky Spanish commit a crime and ends up sending him to jail for it. In addition, the butterfly that Steve was using as a metaphor for Roger suffocates as it is unable to escape its jar.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even Roger finds Ricky Spanish (Ricky Spanish) to be his worst, most evil persona ever.
  • Hate Sink: There is nothing remotely sympathetic or funny about Ricky Spanish (Ricky Spanish), who tortures and manipulates everyone around him. Even Roger had tried to bury his costume as deep as he could.
  • Mathematician's Answer: Roger gets Daniel out of jail by being the wife of the judge. Steve wonders how he has the time to be the wife of the judge for years, to which Roger says "when you're in love, you make the time."
  • Overly Long Gag: Stan and Francine reunite with Tungee in Costco, with an increasingly bizarre number of cutaways as they go "Tungee!" "Mister and Lady!"
  • Redemption Rejection: Steve has Ricky Spanish (Ricky Spanish) go to all the people in town who he wrong to make amends. But he actually uses these apologies to get the materials he needs for a major heist.
  • Running Gag: Everyone time someone says Ricky Spanish, a woman whispers his name while a slow-mo shows him doing something incredibly heinous.

Okay, once more for fun.
